Game freezes

In Space No One Can Hear You Clean, er, Scream. But if you post in this forum about Space Quest - someone's sure to hear you. I think. Try it, anyway!

Game freezes

Post by dotkel50 »

So I'm replaying SQ1 VGA. I'm in the Kerona caves and I get the stalagmite tip and go left to enter the next screen. The game freezes and I'm stuck. The watch icon is showing and I can't move or do anything. Is this a known glitch or could it be a missing or damaged file? I have Windows 7 Pro now, my Vista machine bit the dust (thinks I can get it going again... I hope).

Looks like there may be a couple files missing. Post a file listing from your media.

I had to use Unstoppable Copy on disks 2 and 4, so I'm guessing those 2 files are damaged.

There is something wonky going on. The MD5 hash for the RESOURCE.000 is wrong, but right for RESOURCE.001. It didn't get the hash for RESOURCE.003 or RESOURCE.004, I am assuming because of CRC errors on those disks. Use the file listing tool on the recovered files so I can see the their hashes. I am thinking that there also might be something wrong with the first archive. It looks li9ke the 3.5" diskette version.

The first and last do not seem to be the expected ones for version 2.000. The middle three are. Was this not the 3.5" floppy version? If it is, what printed info is on the first disk? I am just trying to determine if you have a couple of corrupted files or some unknown version.

These are 3.5 disks.
It's a white label with the Sierra name and logo. Blue, green, and red stripes. It says Space Quest I, 256 color, game disk....
Then ms-dos
version 2.0
INT# 8.20.91
and on game disk 1 - S\N 852901090906432

I'd take a picture but I need a battery for my camera.

I only needed the version and int numbers. While it is the same version, it seems to be an earlier release. Before I assume that you have a hosed copy, I'll treat it like an unknown version that needs to have support added to the installer. You know the drill.

Give me some time. I can't get to it right away. If I forget, give me a prod.

Can you attach a save from just before the room where you encountered the error?
