Sierra had a lot of folks trying to mimic their success. The Les Manley series seems to be a copy of Leisure Suit Larry, though, without the getting laid part.Akril wrote:I played the non-talkie version of this game a while back. Even though it does initially seem like Microprose was mimicking the KQ series with this game (much like how Rex Nebular and the Cosmic Gender Bender was mimicking the SQ series), they really spent a lot of time developing a unique, yet not completely unfamiliar fantasy world.

Not only LSL but the SCI interface style itself, which I think Sierra actually sued Accolade for.
Altered Destiny by the same group was a pretty unique and interesting game, though.

Altered Destiny - wasn't that the side scroller? Where you can change to wolf form and such?MusicallyInspired wrote:Not only LSL but the SCI interface style itself, which I think Sierra actually sued Accolade for.

If so, I remember playing the heck out of that at the Arcade (and also when I worked at Pizza Hut, we had it there...)

I was referring to this: http://www.mobygames.com/game/altered-destiny
It's another parser adventure game made by Accolade with the same engine as Les Manley, both of which are two of the few games that support Enhanced EGA.

Hah! Quite correct, I was thinking of Altered Beast!
And Altered Destiny; you know I had that game YEARS ago, but never played it (I had picked it up among other games, but it was on a floppy drive, which I didn't have on my newer machine). I don't know what ever became of that copy... it's not with my Sierra and other games I've kept...

This is a pretty fun game! Feeling stuck (don't want a hint yet!) - but found that secret passage in the room where your father tells you not to read a specific set of books, hidden behind the tapestry. But the door is locked. I have tried pulling and pushing candle sticks, scones, trophy antlers, etc! But I am sure the answer is in that room - I just need to find it!

Yes -- I've heard of Les Manley as well as Altered Destiny, and I agree about AD being a very interesting game, even if its narration did have a pretty strong SQ vibe to it (especially the death messages). The design of the world the game takes place on is remarkably unique. (I've even done fan art of one of its inhabitants.)Tawmis wrote:Sierra had a lot of folks trying to mimic their success. Sierra's Resource Files - There is more to Sierra's games than meets the eye...
My Sierra fan art and fan fiction.
