Space Quest 6 workarounds

Post by Warmage »

Many people have trouble with using the Data Cart in the DNA Lab. The workaround here is to have the Data Cart in your active inventory when you go to access the CommPost. Another on is the Datacorder. If you bought a certain CDMA version it came without any documentation. However take a good look on Windows Explorer and you'll notice there is a save game file on the CD; load it and you'll notice that you have a Datacorder already solved in your inventory. So there's no copyright protection violation going on because it's already given to you!

Do you know what CD versions come with that save game? I'd like to check that.

The data card in the DNA lab has a speed bug, often crashing the game. While there is a patch for it, temporarily reducing the DOSBox cycles (CTRL-F11) is a quick workaround to prevent it.

I was more curious about the SaveGame he mentioned on the CD.

The save games were Sierra's workaround for bugs that they did not want to bother with making a proper patch. Most of them were timer bugs.

I bought an old version. Not the original with all of the manuals and documentation, but one that came after. And one day while looking at her contents of the CD there was a bunch of submenus, with some saved games. So I loaded it. And now you know the rest of the story.
