Recording GK3 videos

Post by Rudy »

Currently I'm recording a video walkthrough of GK3. Would you believe there is no video walkthrough at all of this game on Youtube??? There will be soon though but, the reason why there isn't one, is probably because it's extremely hard to record. First i had to get the FPS on the exact quantity in order to get the sound smooth and in line with the video itself. A bigger problem however is that the textures are flickering. Been trying with 2 different video capture programs, but unfortunately the flickering persists with both of them. It's just the characters that flicker, not the decor itself. Here's a video i made yesterday of the beginning of day 1:

The intro went without a problem though:

Anybody know how to avoid the flickering? I think it's unavoidable, but if anybody has an idea, please tell.

Edit: been thinking a bit. When i recorded the intro, i increased the recording frequency to 30FPS. However that is a video and not actual gameplay footage. The gameplay may have a lower screen refresh rate. As the recording program tries to synchronize sound and video, it keeps the sound as it is, but has more images than the game might be set at per second, which could result in the moving objects (characters) to flikker, while leaving the backgrounds as those are "constant". Just a thought. Does anybody know what the refresh rate within the game is and whether it can be adjusted?

Or people are having problems getting the game to run with their current hardware. Or the game runs too slow while recording.

The videos are nearly done now, about 60 videos in total. Just the final scene still, some death scenes and a real locations video. Fraps started recording it when i ran GK3 in compatibility for Windows 98. Odd eh? Still had to mess around with the FPS though, using different rates depending on whether it was gameplay or cutscene recording.
