QfG4 DOSBox, install help?

Post by jpnuar1 »

Just found this site and I love the DOSBox mods to fix all the timer bugs! I tried to install QfG4 with it though and it works fine through 98% of the total process, except for copying the "RESOURCE.AUD" file. There may be a scratch on my cd, so everything but that is installed, and the game works fine, but has no voice. (I tried copying the file manually after the install, but my computer gives me a cyclic redundancy error about a third of the way through) Do any of you know if there is a way I can legally obtain another copy of the file without having to re-purchase the entire game again?

Okay, I see two potentially contradicting possibilities at your link (and its included link for damaged discs):

-
Lastly, you might ask for replacements for unrecoverable files from your fellow gamers on the various gaming message boards. Just don't ask on Sierra's boards, as these old games are still under copyright.
and
This site will take the policy of if you can provide proof of ownership we will try to help.
I'm hoping the second quote will apply here. Will a photo of the CD be enough proof? (I also still have the manual floating around here somewhere, if it can help...)

There is no contradiction. It is referring to two different sites. Keep in mind that that post was made when the official Sierra message boards were still open and the warning was to not ask on the official Sierra boards.

The file works! Thank you so much! Now not only can I now play the game as intended, but I don't have to wait for the cd to spin up every few seconds. That's awesome! :D

If you don't mind me asking, there's just a bit more I'd like some help with. I never actually finished Shadows of Darkness. Not only because of the famous speed crashes, but because of an event dead end I didn't find out about until many years later.

I know now that you need to sleep in the inn the first few nights until the domovoi lets you recover Tanya's doll, and before I take another shot at this, I was wondering if there are any other known plot dead-ends that I need to anticipate to keep the game moving?

I can't think of any, but it has been some time. You could start a new thread for help with playing so others that have played more recently might read it.
