Game crashes using Windows 10 Pro

Post by Pointedhatw »

Hi everyone,

I downloaded the new installer for Quest For Glory V: Dragon Fire and installed the game. I'm using Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. I get an error message that says, "The application was unable to start correctly, etc." I know there are patches, but I've tried one or two and they haven't worked.

Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong and how I can get the game to run? Thanks.

Uninstall it and do a clean reinstall. If it still does not start run the diagnostic tool and attach the log here.

I have not explored Win 10 enough to say what factor it plays, but try starting from QfG5.exe.

Supposedly the problem is that the game runs with the use of Direct Play, but when I go to the "Turn Windows features on and off" in Windows 10 to turn Direct Play on, the screen comes up blank. I can't find a version of Direct Play to download that will run on Windows 10. It is no longer available to download.

I can't remember if QFGV uses Windows... and if so, what about right clicking the .EXE and running it in compatibility mode?

I've tried that, and I get the same message that it's unable to start correctly.

I am not sure if Direct Play is still enabled in Win10.
