King's Quest by the Odd Gentlemen or whatever.

Post by Tawmis »

So the first chapter is free on Steam, so I figured I'd give it a go.

I got all the way to the part where you pull the lever, the bell, and there's the meat thing that goes down to the dragon. I am pretty sure I've tried every combo of the levers, the bell, and where the thing starts - but I always end up on the floor, by the dragon - then launch an arrow that automatically pulls me back up.

Any hints or full on explanation (but do it in a spoiler tag if that's the case) would be appreciated. :)

I'd help if I could but I don't even recall most of those puzzles....only played it once, but I did enjoy it. Should give it another go with different choices this time.

Well in Chapter 1, there's not much for choices. It's either right or wrong. (Like hiding under the bed covers when the dragon pees down the hall).

I will say, of what I played in Chapter 1, I was pleasantly surprised. The movement controls could be a little wonky at times.

If this is at the beginning of the game, I remember that you have to lure the dragon away, and then ride another slab of meat down. Can you move around after pulling the lever?

So when you're in that area - all you can do is ring the bell (the dragon looks around), or pull the lever. From what I observed - whether the thing you ride is on the ground or at the edge with the meat - the end result is the same. You ride it down - and the dragon looks - you fire an arrow automatically - and ride it back up. There must be a specific pattern/order to this, but I feel like (and I am probably wrong) that I've done it. I was thinking somehow getting the meat to the other side; but can't figure out how that's done.

There will be important choices throughout the chapters that affect the outcome (somewhat) of the overall story. Nothing too crazy, it all ends the same, but with certain differences that can be interesting.

Every time you pull the lever, it alternates where it lowers the meat. You want to pull it twice to put the meat on the far left of the room. Then ring the dinner bell to summon the dragon. When the dragon's eating, pull the lever again and it should take you to the right side of the room.

Yup. Literally loaded it tonight, and noticed I could place the meat on the other side; then rang the bell.

Did the whole dodge and weave after that, and now got to the part where he's talking about the tournament.

Question - the grandson, Gwendolyn - do they go into whose his parents (Alexander or Rosella)? Odd they'd name their son Gwendolyn, considering that was Alexander's name as a slave to Manahahahahahanananana.

The game is graphically beautiful - but there's a LOT of arcade sequences.

They got a lot of flak for that and toned down the arcade sequences in later chapters.

Gwendolyn is a girl. Tsk tsk tsk

Oh, she looked like a girl - with the long hair and the blue anime eyes - but when I think of the name - I'd think of Alexander and his time with Manahahanananahanan. So I initially assumed it was a girl till Graham says the name, then I thought, "Oh, maybe it's a boy with long hair and feminine features." :geek:

Alexander's slave name was Gwydion, but I hadn't thought about the comparison until now.

Oh, I knew it was a girl's name - but in a fantasy setting, pretty much anything goes.

See, when I think of Gwydion I always think of the The Chronicles of Prydain series.

Names in King's Quest III are my bane, clearly since I can never spell Manahahahahanan.
