Designing a King's Quest Spinoff -

Is the game being a ROYAL pain? Need a hint? Got a problem? This is the place to discuss King's Quest!

Designing a King's Quest Spinoff -

Post by Tawmis »

Just because I think these threads are fun for discussion -

If you were tapped as someone who had to make a King's Quest spin off - using one of the existing characters that isn't a main character (so in this case, none of the Graham family) - who would you make it about?

Essentially it'd be a way to create a game to develop and focus on another character, other than the main character(s).

So if you couldn't think of a game idea, who (aside from the main character(s)) do you wish you knew more about? This one is a little easier (or difficult?) than the Gabriel Knight one because the King's Quest series had a ton of different and interesting characters that are interacted with.

I remember Cedric's Quest was already a thing somewhere, so...

I'd go with Captain Saladin. Maybe a younger, cockier version of him back when he was a lower rank, and the adventure can take him off the Green Isles. Since it's a spin-off, you can change up the gameplay to be more in line with QFG, so he gets in some swordplay along the way. Personally, I wouldn't even mind it being a full 3D action-adventure, in the spirit of "Shadow of Mordor" or "Assassin's Creed", but I could probably have the same effect by modding one of those games to feature a Collie in place of the player.

A fun twist, but the plot could hinge around Saladin's dog-people being at war with a race of cat-people - and that's where the KQ universe could crash into QFG, where one of the missions has Saladin travel to Shapeir as a diplomat.

edit: glancing over at my avatar, I think that gives us an idea of what a younger, cockier Saladin would be like

There are so many avenues to pursue here, given the number of characters.

Clash of the Faeries - It's good versus evil up in the clouds as Titania faces off against her sister, Malicia, and Malicia's accomplice Lolotte, all the while searching for her long lost son.

Herbert's Quest - Travel alongside Prince Herbert as he searches in vain for his spoiled, selfish fiancé Alicia. When times get tough, just sit on a log with your head in your hands, and hope somebody more equipped for the job comes along.

Cadaver Quest - Help Dr. Cadaver aid the undead citizens of Ooga Booga by scouring the land for spare body parts. If push comes to shove, rob a grave or two - just leave Benjamin Crabby alone!
