I'm re-playing KQ8 on Windows 7 (64 bit), utilizing the installer that I pulled from this site a few years back. I noticed a weird idiosyncrasy when I get past the locked door in the Realm of the Gnomes: there is a cluster of about 5 or 6 bat mantas in the hallway past this door, and killing each of these enemies decreases my experience rather than increasing it! I was curious to know whether this was an issue for others as well, so I checked the playthroughs posted on YouTube. Every single one of them encountered the same problem, although none of the players appear to have noticed or commented on it.
Has anyone else here noticed this and, more importantly, is there a patch or workaround for the problem?

I've just re-checked every single playthrough of KQ8 on YouTube, and it happens in every single one. Here are the ones I could find; each clip starts at the relevant point, and I've provided the specific timespan to watch in each case:
Sierra Chest: [6:18-6:49]
nidoking042: [5:55-6:34]
ADVRipper4EVER: [8:03-8:32]
Sleyvas: [7:39-8:06]
Skidd: [4:39-5:03]
I'd be interested to know if this is a programming error, or a glitch that only occurs on modern operating systems. It's a small nuisance, but nonetheless annoying to those of us who enjoy going back to find all the missing points in these games. :/
