I don't think it aired when I was growing up in Israel. The only cartoons I remember from that era (1985-88) are the Smurfs and the Care Bears. I guess the TV programmers at that time - in Israel at any rate - thought along the "cartoons are for little kids" lines.

Funny - we're the same age and both from Israel... who would've guessed
