Original Booter Versions on Modern Hardware
Just out of curiosity, are there means of running any of the original booter versions of KQ 1 and 2 on modern hardware?

The booter ones were the ones like the original (old school) King's Quest 1 EGA - can you trick DOSBox into booting up like that?
(I am not aware that there were other booter KQ games, other than that KQ1).

if you have an image file of the booter, you can simply type "boot name_of_image"
(maybe set the machine type in configuration file first to something period correct)

Thanks for that - I wasn't sure if they were DOSBox compatible or not. I've had no experience with booters before.

Keep in mind that some of the booters had CPC protection, which add an extra layer of complexity to the problem. About the only way to run those games is to use something like a KryoFlux to make the image, which will capture the "bad" track. I did this with my KQ2 booter and then converted it to a TransCopy image. I was able to play the game in a special build of DOSBox by NRS. The conversion was a long complicated process involving several in between steps.

I wondered about that. Thanks for the clarification.
I take it ScummVM only works with the AGI re-release versions?
