Why does SQ5 not have speech?

So I got the Space Quest collection off of steam today and I went to play the only Space Quest game I didn't play Space Quest 5 only to find it doesn't have any speech. Why is this? Space Quest 4 and 6 have speech but 5 doesn't.


Is there a patch or anything to add speech to it?

There is a version of SQ5 that does have speech if memory serves me right. Because that's the one with Captain what's his name...

An MPC version of the game was planned, but those plans were dropped. There is no talkie version of the game.

I don't think SQ5 was popular enough with fans to warrant a separate CD-ROM (or "talkie") release. I know SQ4 was very well liked and usually considered the "most enjoyable" out of the entire series. SQ6 probably got a "talkie" version simply due to advancements in technology at the time. I didn't like SQ6, but then again, I really enjoyed SQ5.
