*blink, blink* Wha?! Decmeber 06, 1990? How -- how in seven Hades did that receipt even stay so readable after so long?!?
I keep my receipts for everything I buy - games, books, things for the house - and most of them fade after three years tops, never mind 30 years.
Wow. Trip down memory lane, man. Back to a time when gameshops like Egghead still existed, and games came in boxes and cost $48.25.
I still have all the boxes, original CDs/DVDs, manuals and receipts of every game I ever bought. I just kept them all together - because if the game didn't work, you could bring it back and get a refund. Plus, it keeps everything neat and tidy, all in the same place ...

Oh, it's super faded. The text is actually a super light blue. I enhanced the image after scanning it to make it stick out more.Rath Darkblade wrote: ↑Tue May 12, 2020 8:35 am *blink, blink* Wha?! Decmeber 06, 1990? How -- how in seven Hades did that receipt even stay so readable after so long?!?
You guys had Egghead in Australia? I wasn't sure if they existed outside of the US!Rath Darkblade wrote: ↑Tue May 12, 2020 8:35 am Wow. Trip down memory lane, man. Back to a time when gameshops like Egghead still existed, and games came in boxes and cost $48.25.

Re: Found in my King's Quest 1 gold box.
I said "gameshops like Egghead". We had Propeller Head (where I bought my boxed copy of QfG5), and Game Traders (for second-hand games - oh look, they still exist! ), plus of course we have EB Games (probably known in the US as Electronic Boutique?) and JB Hi-Fi (an Aussie chain of electronic things like TVs, computers, printers, cameras etc., and yes, games).
Plus of course Cash Converters, but they don't have as much stock as the above.
What about you guys in CA?

The rest, I've not heard of.
Warehouse was also another one - though they started off as records and such, and branched out to games in the 80's.

Re: Found in my King's Quest 1 gold box.
Propeller Head ... I think ... was always an Aussie thing. There's just one left in the entire city I live in (and this city is pretty big - nearly 5 million people here).
Game Traders are a shop that trade in second-hand games. You bring them your second-hand games (CDs and boxes), they give you cash. Generally not much. I haven't seen or heard from them in nearly 20 years, though. But they still exist.
The only reason I know about them is because, just over 15 years ago, I was a student at a college and renting near the college. Being a poor student, I wanted to save money (hence the selling off of games), but also to buy games (hence the buying of second-hand games).
JB Hi-Fi are one of the biggest chains here of electronic equipment. (Plus games).
Cash Converters are ... more or less a pawn shop, but more upscale than a pawn shop. It's possible, sometimes, to find good deals on games there. If you're lucky.

Yeah. I've seen people on FB (and on here) mention going to pawn shops and finding good old games (including Sierra). That's never been my case here in San Diego. Yeah, I had the original KQ 1-3 in the grey boxes when I was a kid, but I threw them away at some point. I had no concept of the value in keeping things. I threw away original G1 Transformers. A HUGE collection of original Kenner Star Wars toys. I'd like to go back in time and punch my young self in the face! lol

I've got them.

Yeah. I am in the same boat with G1 Transformers and Star Wars. My Star Wars figures I remember giving to someone. I don't remember who. I don't even recall what happened to my G1 Transformers.envisge0ne wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2020 10:19 pm Yeah, I had the original KQ 1-3 in the grey boxes when I was a kid, but I threw them away at some point. The thing I regret is somewhere - at some point - between my move from SD to TN, I lost, threw away, misplaced, autographed photos I had of several Sierra folks (Al Lowe, Scott Murphy & Mark Crowe, Lori & Corey Cole, Roberta Williams, Jim Walls - I want to say Christy Marx also).
The grey boxes? What about that first KQ box with him in full plate mail?

Re: Found in my King's Quest 1 gold box.
Yeah, I lost (or my parents threw away) my original G1 Transformers when we moved to Australia, just before the First Gulf War.
I'm not bitter about it. There's only so much that can fit in suitcases and bags, and, well ... but how much would they be worth to collectors now. Geez.
As for plate mail boxes - I can beat that. I have (or think I have) one of Civ 3 boxes. In plate-mail coloured tin!

You probably do not want to look at how much G1 Transformers are worth - even out of the box.Rath Darkblade wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 7:07 am Yeah, I lost (or my parents threw away) my original G1 Transformers when we moved to Australia, just before the First Gulf War.

As for Platemail cover, I had meant this: And this is the grey box they were talking about: Although this has me curious...

I haven't looked, but I definitely had an Optimus Prime, a Megatron and a Bumblebee, among others. I can't remember the others.
As for the Platemail box - nope, I can't say I've ever seen one of those.
