Kings Quest 6 error - kicked out of game

I am playing Kings Quest 6 from DOSBox. Game has kicked me out a few times but only once has an error screen come up before its happened.
I am near the end of the game and at the Mist Island. The druids captured me and the rain spell puts out the fire. I collect the embers with the skull and try to walk back to the beach to use map. As soon as I leave the screen and error comes up saying "You have tried something we haven't thought of" or something like that. Please try something else......along with the error code, version, etc.

Is there a patch somewhere for this? I see some things but they are for windows not dos.

Are you using one of Collector's installers? Or just straight up DOSBox?

If you're using one of Collector's installers - please include the DIAGNOSTIC TOOL output (part of one of the things installed with it) and paste it in a post or attach it as a file.
