QG3 Help, Monkey Village Crash

Post by nordicpc »

Hey everyone,
Haven't gotten this far in QG3 probably a decade or so, but I totally remember this bug from back when I was playing on a 486. I hope someone here remembers how to fix it.

I've got a Paladin that was imported from QG2 (redoing the whole series), and when Manu leads him to the Monkey Village, it crashes the game. Just locks up like a trap. I'm playing in DOSBox now with a very recent version. I've gotten through QG1 and QG2, and can't wait to get this guy into QG4.

As I recall there's some way to fix the issue, but I can't remember how. I've patched to the official 1.1, and will go ahead and apply this other patch too, and start back a ways and see how it goes, but I know there was just something Sierra told me over the phone all those years ago.

Thanks for the help,

Many of the official "workarounds" were to turn the game details down and play with the speed. These are usually because of speed issues. Did you apply the NewRisingSun patch? Also, try lowering your DOSBox cycles.

I have tried it at a slow speed with lowest detail, and DOSBox cycles around 3000 or so. I'll apply the unofficial patch and see if that helps.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Keep in mind that if you apply the NRS patch, you may still have the problem if you use a save game from the same "room". NewRisingSun recommends that you start over after applying his patch. QfG3 is unfortunately the one QfG game that I have not finished a new installer for, yet.

I did successfully get past that point with lowest quality and 50% speed, and now I'm at the other lockup point I forgot about: as all the friends show up to the party in the Lost City. When Manu starts to climb down the pillar, it locks again. Back to trying things until something works.

Man, can't wait to get through this one and onto QG4.

Be sure to use the new installer for QfG4 before you start.

Well, after trying multiple speed and quality options, I ended up dropping to 16-color, PC Speaker and no extra RAM to get through it. At least it's over...

Thanks for the help, and for hosting all of this awesome information!
