Quest for Glory 2 EGA crashing at intermission

Post by wolfina2 »

I'm playing Quest for Glory 2 and I was grinding the night before the caravan to get some more money and grinded until dawn and when i head to the saurus pen I'm immediately sent to the caravan. It's fine everything is running fine then it hits the intermission press enter and.. "Resource Type Mismatch" and then the game crashes.

I looked online but I couldn't find anything about resource type mismatch and am wondering if there is a way to fix this or if I need to just load an earlier save?

I'm playing the original EGA version and as a note my 'Experience points' are Negative, I don't know if that effects it at all

I installed it through gog, i tried a bunch of different things while i was waiting for approval, i turned off sound, turned details to low, even went in with the debug and altered my experience points not to be negative

i tried through scummvm but i couldn't get my save to transfer to Scummvm no matter what i tried so i just gave up with that because it would mean replaying the entire game up to that point in scummvm

the only thing that worked was using the debug to teleport right to raseir and giving the hero the visa and skipping the cutscene entirely, but i worry that may have bugged my game so if there is a solution to this i'd love to hear

Doesn't the GOG release now yse ScummVM? The SVM saves are not compatible with the original saves. This is not a common SCI error and when I checked it seems to be a SVM error message.

It doesn't launch through scummvm though, it launches DOSBox, I couldn't even get scummvm to work with my saves (Which is probably as you said scummvm saves aren't compatible with original saves)

Is there some settings or things I can try within DOSBox? I can upload my saves if that will help you as maybe it's something with my computer? (Old games linking timed events to processors and the like)

ok update, I was able to get past this error by using an older download I had of QFG2 from Gog from around 2015 that i had on a usb? So they must have changed something from between then and now that caused this issue, might be something with the version of DOSBox? Not sure

Could be something with the versioning of the game itself too. I am not sure DOSBox would care - because it's just emulating.

I am the one that originally designed the GOG QfG release, but they have been tampering with it since. Of course the latest has been to rip out the DOS executables and ram ScummVM down their customer's throats. Of course the lesson of this is to always keep your older GOG installers.

I haven't noticed Scummvm for any Sierra games only the usual lucasarts games, (like monkey island)

I recently played space quest 1 & 2 and it was also DOSBox, as is quest for glory, but if they are switching over to scummvm then no doubt it will be in the future of the game

I forgot to note but the version of DOSBox between the two installs is different, the one from 2015 is 0.74 and the current version is 0.74-2 (Which the only changes noted were audio fixes, However this is noteworthy as the 'Resource type mismatch' came up in a search for a different game due to an audio issue and turning off the audio fixed it
