BiA skill allocation problem

I just got an urge to play Betrayal in Antara, and I got it working on my pc. However no matter what I do, my character skills never increase except when I use them. (With the exception of Aren's magic skills.)

It's like the skill allocation system isn't doing jack squat. The five selected skills never increase faster than any other skills. Does anyone know what my problem might be?

Maybe it's because of the (fanmade?) installer I used to make it work on a fast computer with XP. Anyone?

Is the installer that you you used the one from Squirt the Cat? If so, please report the problem on his board, SquirtTheCat Forum, so he can take a look at this bug and possibly add a fix to his installer. In the mean time, try playing around with compatibility mode settings.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, it's the one from Squirt the Cat, so I'll try that.

Just to confirm though, the five selected skills on the skill screen are supposed to increase on their own over time without having to use them, are they not?

That sounds right, but it has been so long since I have looked at this game that I can't be sure.
