King's Quest Novels

Post by AndreaDraco »

I was thinking about getting the three KQ novels. How are they? Are they good?

Also, you know a site where I can find them at a reasonable price that ships to Italy? Amazon won't let me :(

I don't think I can answer your second question, but as for your first, for the most part the novels are pretty good. However, aside from the royal family and Daventry, there are no other characters or locations from the games. The third book is also a bit bizarre, and Rosella seems to act pretty out of character throughout most of it.

Here's an old forum post I made discussing them in great detail, which contains some minor spoilers.

Couldn't you just check eBay? I took a quick look there and some sellers who're offering the KQ novels ship to Italy. I can't see why you couldn't get all three novels there.

As far as Amazon.com is concerned, this is posted in their Marketplace Ordering & Shipping section. It looks like Italy is covered.

I did, but - unless I was temporarily blind - all the offers for the first novel shipped only to United States.

It depends of what you acquire. I tried to purchase the first novel but Amazon tells me to specify an American address for the shipment.

Half.com has all three of the novels (via 3rd party sellers), but I do not know about their international shipping policies.

Andrea, try this link. It's for the first KQ book.

It's under the "Buy It Now!" category, so there's no bidding involved. You can make an offer, but I've found most sellers won't bother with it. At least with "Buy It Now!" there's no change the price will suddenly raise.

I was wondering... Is the King's Quest Companion by Peter Spears worth getting? Is it an interesting read beside the walkthroughs for the game, which I'm not that interested into?

I used to like the KQ Companion a lot, though I suppose I've become a little more critical of the writing style over the years. Still, the novelizations of the games are pretty good, and it contains some interesting background information about some of the characters and locations (though some of it does conflict with the content of the games somewhat).
