ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante has announced a brand new album, "Silver Linings", due out May 14 via Megaforce Records. The 14-track effort features an all-star cast of "who's who" in the thrash, metal, and rock worlds, with all cuts culled from Benante's acclaimed "quarantine jam" video series. Benante has earmarked a portion of the "Silver Linings" proceeds for the Neal Casal Music Foundation, an organization that provides musical instruments and lessons to students and makes donations to much-needed mental health organizations that support musicians in need.

"Back in February of last year," Benante remembers, "with COVID and all the other B.S. that was going on, I was glued to the 24-hour news cycle on the TV and my phone, and I started to get really depressed. My girlfriend said I needed to turn off the news and suggested I do something creative, whether it was art or drumming or writing new songs, and she was right."

Benante set up his electric drum kit at home in his art room and started playing along with music he had grown up listening to. It pulled him out of his depression and reignited his creative drive. "I knew a lot of my musician friends were going through the same thing I had been, so I started asking them if they wanted to get involved, play some songs with me, maybe make a video. That's how it all started."

Throughout the quarantine video series, Benante collaborated on jams with fellow ANTHRAX bandmates Frank Bello, Scott Ian and Jon Donais, his girlfriend Carla Harvey (BUTCHER BABIES), Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT), Ra Diaz (SUICIDAL TENDENCIES), Mark Osegueda (DEATH ANGEL), John 5 (ROB ZOMBIE) and Alex Skolnick (TESTAMENT), among many more. Some of Charlie's favorite songs by RUSH, Tom Petty, BEASTIE BOYS, STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH, KING'S X, RUN-DMC, MASSIVE ATTACK, U2, FUGAZI, CHEMICAL BROTHERS and Billie Eilish were covered.

For the album's cover art, Charlie recruited his friend, artist Brian Ewing, whose art he's always loved. "I think he did a great job," said Charlie, "and the package's artwork ties in my fascination with horror."

"This isn't a solo album," Charlie added, "this is a record of my favorite songs done with some of my friends during a very dark time. We found a shining light and this is the result of that light. I was really happy that my musician friends came on board and helped make this record what it is. I appreciate all of them, and they all did such a fantastic job. Despite all of the darkness we've experienced this past year, there are 'silver linings,' that's why I chose that title for the album."

On Saturday, March 27, NIGHT RANGER performed at SeaWorld's Seven Seas Food Festival in Orlando, Florida. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below (courtesy of YouTube user "concertsrock").

All theaters and stadiums at SeaWorld Orlando are operating at limited capacity with modified seating to allow for proper physical distancing.

Last fall, NIGHT RANGER commenced the songwriting and recording process for its as-yet-untitled new studio album. Due later this year via Frontiers Music Srl, the LP will be the follow-up to "Don't Let Up", which was released in March 2017.

Songwriting started with the three original members Jack Blades (lead vocals/bass), Kelly Keagy (lead vocals/drums), and Brad Gillis (lead and rhythm guitars) meeting and putting their initial ideas together. The recording then began, with Eric Levy (keyboards) and Keri Kelli (lead and rhythm guitars) joining the process. The plan, subject to change, was to deliver the record to Frontiers in the first few months of 2021 for a tentative summer release.

NIGHT RANGER stated: "What this world needs now is to come together through music and NIGHT RANGER is on it! We are excited to create a new studio album with our great partners at Frontiers Music. Our biggest problem is that we have so many songs, we're trying to figure out which ones to leave off! Rock and Roll baby."

With more than 17 million albums sold worldwide, over 3,000 live shows performed, NIGHT RANGER's popularity is fueled by an impressive string of instantly recognizable hit singles and signature album tracks such as "Sister Christian", "Don't Tell Me You Love Me", "When You Close Your Eyes" and the anthemic "(You Can Still) Rock In America".

I am pretty sure your statement is 100% inaccurate... as the PotC ride at Disney opened: March 18, 1967.

I knew the ride was around at least in 1975, because I recall riding it several times.

And the character of Jack Sparrow was inspired (at least Johnny Depp's inspiration) from Keith Richards (who would later appear in the movie as Jack's father).

Wiki adds (I didn't know the second part and not sure I see it) : The characterization of Sparrow is based on a combination of The Rolling Stones' guitarist Keith Richards and Looney Tunes cartoon character Pepé Le Pew.

Whoops, whoops - you're right, of course. As this article in the Houston Press explains, the PotC ride was ONE of the inspirations for the Monkey Island games.

Even so, the Monkey Island games existed for a long, long time before the PotC movies. In fact, there was supposed to be a Monkey Island movie ... and then Disney bought the whole franchise and sat on it for the last 10-20 years. (Damn it, Disney! Let someone else do something with MI!)

Sigh. I suppose we will never see another Monkey Island ... poor Guybrush, Elaine, LeChuck and so on ...

I rarely like live tracks - even of bands I love - so few, can capture it. Adele is one I can listen to live, because her voice can still convey the deep emotion.

It's how I feel about Tony Harnell of TNT (a band from Norway with a singer from San Diego!)

TNT eventually got another vocalist, after Tony Harnell's departure named Tony Mills.
Tony Mills, not only sang for the Norwegian heavy metal band TNT, but in the early 80s made a name for himself with the band SHY - who at the age of 57 passed away after losing a battle with Pancreatic cancer.

Guitarist and leader of the Norwegian hard rock band, TNT, Ronni le Tekrø plays this amazing instrumental version of Good Night, Marie, in memory of his friend and former vocalist of TNT, Tony Mills, that died 10 days before this concert. Hamar Kulturhus 28/9-2019 Filmed by Marianne Arvesen.

Sad to hear that William J. Tsamis, of WARLORD passed away.
They were an absolutely unique heavy metal band, with a sound that stood out, and lyrics that were often deep.

I am in love with the lead singer's voice. It's so raw and amazing.
