Birthright Installer, Game Not Starting

Post by Kathryn »

Hola!

I recently bought a few olde Sierra games, Hunter Hunted and Birthright, to play on my Windows 7 computer. I used the Hunter Hunted installer on this internet site, and the game runs great! Now with Birthright I am having some trouble.

I used the Installer found here for Birthright, and the game installs fine. I am able to start it up fine, but when I click the mouse button to skip the introduction movie, the game quits before it gets to the main menu. So for some reason the game always quits to the desktop before getting to the main menu.

Any idea, clues, or suggestions that may solve this problem? I tried some of the Birthright DOSBox configurations, but none of them had any affect.

I'd be grateful for help in solving the problem, gracias! :)

There was a corrupted file in the installer. Redownload it and reinstall it.

Hola!

I downloaded it again and it works this time! Gracias for doing that and fixing it! :)

Birthright is a terrific unique computer game, so that's wonderful that it works :).

After using the updated Birthright installer the
BR.cfg file has

[CD]
D
[INSTALL_TYPE]
2

which is the same as my old installation when installing from the old CD which still required quite a lot of CD-access.

Woulnd´t a full install be 1 (as in full, medium, tiny)?

The file Sierra.inf lists those kinds of installation:

Code: Select all

...

BEGIN 3, LargeMediumSmallInstall
InstallTypeTitle
1, InstallTypeText
3, TinyInstall,(),FLAG42
3, SmallInstall,(), FLAG16
3, MediumInstall, (), FLAG13
3, LargeInstall, (), FLAG14
3, DOSInstall,(),FLAG51
10, OKText
11, CancelText
END
...

When I run the Diagnostic Tool I get

Code: Select all

Any issues with this installer can be reported on the Sierra Help
Pages Forum:

If requested, please include the following information:

BIRTHRIGHT: The Gorgon's Alliance for DOSBox

diagnostic information:

======================== System Info ========================

Screen Resolution : 1280 x 1024, 32 bit color
DirectX Version : DirectX 9.0c
CD-ROM Drive(s) : N:\

========================= Game Info =========================

Game : Birthright
Game Version :
Game Path : C:\SIERRA\Birthright **See note below**
Installer Version : 2.0.0.0
NSIS Version : v2.46
Start Menu Directory : Sierra\BIRTHRIGHT- The Gorgon's Alliance
Uninstall string : C:\Sierra\Birthright\uninst.exe

 * You have this game installed in the "Program Files" directory.
Systems folders have restricted write permissions, which can
cause known issues with legacy games.

Consider installing this game in a non-system folder such as:

        "C:\Sierra\BIRTHRIGHT
...
which confuses me - I have installed my game in C:\Sierra\Birthright and that is a problem and I should better be using... C:\Sierra\Birthright?

I have not looked at this installer for many years. If I get a chance I'll take a look.
