Very bad advice there to start with (i.e. get your kid to take a thwack with a baseball bat at a beehive).
As for scary, creepy stories ... I recorded one of my favourites: Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart". You may see it at my Vimeo site, along with other things!

Re: Anyone else love creepy stories?
OK, just for a start: there's no way that I (or anyone else I know) would put a cup-o-noodles in the microwave for 77 hours in a flimsy paper cup. If, for the sake of argument, I was making 2-minute noodles -- I would break them up, put them in a bowl, and dump the boiling water and flavour on top. Easy.
Or -- and you may call me Mr Picky if you like -- I could just throw the whole thing away and make pasta from scratch. Am I picky?
As for the story itself -- ah, this is all about this story (from ABC News).
Yep, the Northern Territory is very very hot and has very wild weather. Extreme heat, punctuated by storms, are common. Lots of spiders and snakes, some crocs. I've never been there, but I don't like humidity so it doesn't look like I'm missing much. Nope, I'm not familiar with the Finniss River.
If you look at the map (at 1:18), you see the word "Victoria" at the bottom right. The big red dot that says "Melbourne"? That's where I am. (Or this little spot on google maps. Just for fun, I looked up Darwin on the map - it would take me 39 hours to get to Darwin by car, or 4.5 hours by plane. The Finniss River is about 1.5 hours by car from Darwin).
But yes, don't mess around with crocs (or alligators, for that matter -- or any kind of wildlife). The Darwin Awards are proof of that! Crocs and gators evolved from creatures that existed along with freakin' dinosaurs. If they can survive all that, they're not going to be scared of us puny humans. They'll mess you up good, jack.
