Huzzah! (QfG4 FTW - and spoilers galore!)

Post by Rath Darkblade »

I just finished QfG4 as Paladin ... and got a perfect score!! :) (Go me!) ;)

And while doing that, I compiled a list that I'm going to call ...

Fun things to do in Mordavia! :D

1. Really STOOPID Things.
a. Try to attack Tanya or Toby. It does not kill you instantly (since Toby just kicks you out), but it does make the game unwinnable (since Tanya kills you if you come back). And it's a REALLY stupid thing to do. :P

b. As a thief, try to attack the Chief Thief. If he is a giant insect, he will kill you. If he is human ... he will die. And your Honor score will get knocked down to 0. You doity rat, you! :P

c. As a thief, kill Nikolai. Again -- you doity rat! :P

d. As a thief, steal Nikolai's locket from the chest in his house. And then ... put it back. And then ... steal it AGAIN! You doity rat, you! No honor for you! :P

e. Attack Ad Avis without summoning Erana's Staff and incapacitating him with the Ultimate Joke. He will just laugh at you - and then it's game over. :P Well, that was stupid, wasn't it? ;)

f. Free Davy from jail, but DON'T to rescue Igor within two days of hearing about Davy. If you do that, Igor will die and the Burgomeister will arrest you the next time he sees you. It's a crime to aid and abet a criminal. Naughty naughty! :P

Now then ... here are some fun things that won't kill you. ;)

1. Garlic. Try giving garlic to Katrina. It has no effect on her, but she will express disgust.

2. The Paladin's Sword. If you play a Paladin, at some point you will have to kill a Wraith to get one of the Rituals. And in the Wraith's treasure hoard, you will also find ... DUN DUN DUN!!! ... the sword of Paladin Pyotr, the Burgomeister's grandfather! :D Go and show it to the Burgomeister. It's quite heartwarming. :) He will thank you and say you have redeemed his family honour, he finally believes in heroes, and he is proud to meet you! :D

3. As a thief, show the toolkit -- that you find in the Chief Thief's office -- to the Chief Thief. :P His reaction is quite explosive -- and funny.

Chief Thief: So you've stolen my toolkit and NOW YOU'RE STUPID ENOUGH TO SHOW IT TO ME!!! I SHOULD KICK YOU OUT OF THE GUILD FOR THIS!!!...but then I'll have no members at all. Ah, just keep it! :D

4. As a Fighter or a Paladin, break down the front gate of Castle Borgov and kill the Necrotaurs guarding it. The next day Boris will comment on it. "I would not like to meet whatever was powerful enough to kill those Necrotaurs." And he's right. It's quite a tough fight.

And finally, here's a bit of story-telling brilliance. :)

1. The Hero can flirt with Katrina and tries to touch or kiss her during their "dates". She demurely tells him that, although she is interested, she feels that if she were to do so, she would be unable to control herself with him. At first it sounds like she's just playing coy.

But then you learn what Katrina really is, and suddenly it sounds like she doesn't want to lose control and bite you. This is especially significant when you overhear Katrina tell Ad Avis she doesn't want you as a puppet, but to genuinely love her by your own free will.

2. On the first play-through, you might assume that Baba Yaga's return was just for continuity and nostalgia ... but Mordavia is a Russian-based land with many Russian folklore characters. And Baba Yaga is one of the most famous Russian folklore characters -- EVER! :D So there was no way they could leave her out! ;)

What do you think, hmm? :)

Congratulations on the perfect Paladin score, and you've got quite a nice list of things to try -- these are things most people wouldn't have thought of!

Sure. Why would you attack Tanya or Toby? Why would you attack the Chief Thief (if you're a thief?) ;)

All of the things on the list don't make sense, but it's good to see the programmers show you the consequences. ;) Plus, obviously they didn't want to have an "Oops! You did something we didn't expect" error. Right? :)

Never got to play as a paladin in the first place, myself.
For someone who loves RPGs and CRPGs, it's odd I never replayed the QFG series very much. I'd often times load it up (after having beat each one), to play for an hour, and then turn it off (not out of boredom, but simply often as a distraction I'd play QFG to burn time/clear my head).
