[2021] A Time For Games!

Post by *The Butler »

As Halloween gets closer and closer - this also means the MASQ will be coming to an end!

To help provide clues as to who is hiding behind a MASQ... this game is a simple one.

You challenge the next post to post about one game category of you choice from down below, after you answer the previous post.

The game must be one you've at least played - even if you didn't like it, you can post about it.

Reply with the name of the game you're speaking of, then what you liked, didn't like, memories, something about a game to that genre.

The category of games (and some examples) are -

Action games (Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Space Invaders, etc)
Action-adventure games (Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil, Castlevania, etc)
Adventure games (King's Quest, Final Soul, Hitch Hiker's Guide To the Galaxy, Leisure Suit Larry, etc)
Role-playing games (Mass Effect, Fallout, Dragon Age, Neverwinter Nights, Rogue, EverQuest, World of Warcraft, etc)
Simulation games (Sim City, The Sims, etc)
Strategy games (Warcraft, Starcraft, Command & Conquer, Civilizations, Age of Empires, etc)
Sports games (Well, this should be obvious...)
Puzzle games (Tetris, and the like)
Idle games (Chess, Checkers, Minecraft, etc)

So I will make this start off easy - I am asking for the next poster to talk about an Adventure Game.
Mrs. White, you've been paying our friend, the blackmailer, ever since your husband died under, shall we say, mysterious circumstances?

In this game, it is possible to die to be eaten by big green things with big teeth.

That not what this game is, so I'll go.

Adventure game:
I liked Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It followed the plot of the movie fairly well, was nicely challenging and lots of opportunities for replay.

RPG:
I'm a big fan of Skyrim. I liked how they abandoned the class selection that most RPGs have, and instead went with the idea that the more you did something, the better you got at it.

I don't play many action games (in fact, I can't remember the last one I played).

Strategy:
I really liked the original X-COM. I first got it a long time after it came out, but I was impressed how well it played for an older title.

Simulation:
I tried playing "The Sims" (the first one) for a while and had fun with the bright colours etc., but eventually it dawned on me that I was wasting my time, playing a game about something that I could be doing in real life. Why should I watch my little Sim learn to cook, when I could cook in real life?

Games should be for escapism and doing something that you CAN'T do in real life, like fighting with swords or blowing stuff up with lasers, or running a medieval town (e.g. Age of Empires 2). < grin >

OK, rant over.

The only sports game I've every played is Gran Turismo. I let my parents play and they were content to drive the car around the track.

Adventure game.

I liked playing Leisure Suit Larry for the challenge of finding the many ways to kill and/or humiliate Larry. <G>

I liked the Age of Empires games for their presentation of history. Of course they were inaccurate in various ways, but they did things that no other strategy games did at the time. < nod >

More adventure!

I liked the Conquest of the Longbow. Aside from being a good adventure game, it was an original yet familiar story of Robin Hood.
