KQ Collection 2006

Post by Roy »

Hallo,

Roy

Sorry! I wrote this text in Dutch because I have logged in to the Dutch version of this site.

Here's what the above text says:
I have uploaded both discs together with DOSBox. After the start I get a beautiful list with 7 launches for the games. Inspite of DOSBox, I only can play the game The Princeless Bride; it opens in a new window. All the other games doesn't give me anything else than a completely black screen. The audio / sound is hearable. That's all.
Through SHP (this site) I have tried to download the DOSBox-version which will also download the games (when I put Disc 1 into the driver), but the result as written above stays the same.

My PC is running with Windows XP Home Edition.

Many thanks beforehand, and I'm curious if it works how it should be.

Sincerely,
Roy

Roy speaks Dutch - here's as close as I can get for a translation wrote: Hello, I weet or the question have not been already asked in this forum. If so, then and I have looked at my excuses ordinary not well. My problem with KQ is the following: I have both ' CD' s' with amount box geupload. Then have I by means of SHP download tried - which amount box and the game (on part 6 after, which stands on disk 2) already has added (it is asked there disk 1 in do the drive), but that gives the same result. I work on system Windows XP home Edition. There is someone who can help me and Council can give how I the game much can play? In advance complete a lot thanks and have been aroused curiosity or it also works such as would have. Kind regards, Roy

If I understand the problem, the patch for the 2006 collection will not work for KQ7 localized versions. It is a binary difference patch that needs to to a crc check and will only work with the US version 1.4. I could make a patch for other versions, but would need the files to do so and the end product would be an English only version.

Well, my problem has been solved. Thanks to a Dutch guy who doesn't even have the game himself.
He told me that all I have to do is to open my Program Files, and drop the map of KQ1 on the icon of DOSBox (in the case of my files will that be a white square with blue frame). DOSBox will be open automatically. I had to push the TAB-button a few times until C:\Sierra appears, give that an Enter and voila... The DOSBox screen turns out into the startpage of KQ1.
Now I can play the game without any trouble.

This guy also told me that DOSBox is running worldwide, and not only in the USA. Inwhich he was right.

Without judging you, but it is quite strange that you couldn't tell me this.

Anyway, the game is working, and hereby the main-problem has been solved out.

Nevertheless, thanks for your help and spread this information all over your site if you want.

Kind regards,
Roy

I might have been able to help If I had understood your first post. Translations by the likes of Babble Fish are barely intelligible at best and laughable at worst. Not to be an English chauvinist, but if you know English, why wouldn't you ask for help on an English language board in English? Even broken English is more understandable than a bot translation.

Please read my very post again. You'll see that I made a translation of my post myself. (Because I logged in to the Dutch version of this site, I thought there were Dutch moderators as well; not knowing that only the pages are in the Dutch language, and the moderators will be English.)
And it was Tawmis who replied with that bot translation, not me. May be it was a better idea of me to "quote" myself, instead of "edit" my own text, so you probably missed my English text. Sorry for that as well.

Sorry, I saw the Dutch and did not look through the rest of the post, assuming that the whole post was not in English. I do find it curious that there is some translation of my site. If there is, it is by no means official, nor sanctioned by me. Not that I have a problem with it being translated, but would at least like to be informed that someone wanted to do this.

As far as your original problem goes, whether you had the 2006 collection and you tried the DOSBox patch or the had the King's Quest Collection Series and used the SHP installer and it failed, it may be because of differences in the localized version. If the file and directory structure is the same as the US version it should have worked. If the 2006 collection did not work as is, it may be because of problems with the old version of DOSBox that shipped with the collection. The 2006 collection also installs the Windows version of KQ7, so it does not rely on DOSBox. However, you will also encounter the firecracker bug with the Windows version.
