Indeed, Wizardry: Crusaders of the Dark Savant is what I was thinking of. This, besides Wizardry 8, is probably the CRPG I've played the most (outside of Realms of Arkania).
Wizardry I-VI are pretty much, exclusively dungeon crawlers (with VI getting "real" graphics and color) and were pretty much fantasy based.
Wizardry VII introduced robots, aliens from flying ships, a number of characters on flying ships, alien buildings, and mixed it all in with the Wizardry lore - and takes place mixed between dungeon crawls and outside.
I loved Wizardry VII, quite a bit. Lots of memories of my friend Shawn and I playing (he and I had played the other Wizardry games together), but Wizardry VII we spent MONTHS on.
Wizardry VIII came out so late, when I got it; my wife saw me playing it, got interested. Bought her own copy and beat the game BEFORE I did, because I love to explore EVERY corner and make sure there's no hidden items or paths.
It's your turn, DPX!
