I've been reading about Lethal Weapon 5 for a while. They were working with Richard Donner but then he passed. I'm so happy it's still happening. Too bad it has to be without Donner though.

I'm heading out with the family tonight to watch Ghostbusters Afterlife! I'll post my thoughts when I get home.

What a great film! It's no epic or anything, but man does it hit all the right points for me! The characters were all mostly memorable and likeable and it was very heartfelt and an appropriate epilogue to the original movies. There were a few points where it could have been too much and gone very very wrong but it just didn't. It tastefully and gracefully stuck the landing insanely well. And the ending especially was very moving. So much care went into every reference but it didn't overdo it. There were also so many points where I went "Oh that's so cool!" and got me all amped and excited like good movies used to do. It reminded me of why I love the favourite films I love. It didn't drag at any point and nothing went over the top (too much, this IS a film about ghosts lol) and it was just really enjoyable all around. It didn't feel too long or too short. It was a great movie in the classic sense. Bravo to Jason Reitman and the rest of the team for pulling it off so well. Seriously one of my favourite movies of the last 10 years. Like I said, it's no epic and it's not THE greatest film, but as far as just being a great film in its own right and standing on its own two legs while extending a firm grasping loyal link to the past it was just an overall solid film. It was funny and even at some points emotional. Highly recommend!

Not at all. The DNA is totally different. Ghostbusters 2016 sucked royally. This one is an actual sequel in the same universe as the original directed and co-written by the son of the original director of the first movie. And isn't filled with bad jokes.

Er ... IIRC, the original Ghostbusters also had bad jokes here and there (I thought that was part of its charm, actually).

What kind of bad jokes did you have in mind, MI?

And no, I disagree about the original Ghostbusters. The entire thing was golden. I suppose that's subjective, but 2016's jokes were just not funny. Ever at all. It was a very try-hard movie that totally tonally missed what the original was all about. And if that was on purpose, what they did instead was crap. What Afterlife does instead of the original was quite good (IMO).

Yeah - the 2016 had ONE good part.
When the woman opens the door to all the manikins, and she goes, "Nope." And closes the door. And one of them chases her.

Rest of the movie? Trash.

Fair enough. I haven't seen the 2016 Ghostbusters, so I don't know how good or bad it was. If it tried hard to be funny, then I agree, that's crap. A good joke doesn't happen because you set up a punchline that everyone can see a mile away; the punchline has to be unexpected.

As for the original Ghostbusters -- I agree, it was fantastic. All I mean by "bad jokes" is one or two "dad jokes".

Spiderman No Way Home was absolutely incredible. Watched it with the fam last night. Absolutely did everything and every character justice. And it was fun and funny while having emotional weight at the same time. Each reference was handled with the most absolute care and nothing seemed thrown in for a quick nostalgic memberberry. They all had a purpose and a voice. It's my new favourite MCU film. Infinity War is probably the better film objectively, but this one did everything right that I could possibly expect and more. Like, everything. I don't have a single complaint I can think of.

Not every joke landed, but a lot really did. I was grinning ear to ear through the whole thing almost. I also love how they set things up for the future of Spiderman. This rendition of Spidey is starting to turn into the one I actually like and more true to the comic books. I was never a fan of Holland's high schooler kid Spiderman-boy or his characterization in the MCU. This really fixes it for me. Highly recommend.

Looking forward to seeing it, but I won't be able to see it until it lands on Disney+.

It likely won't as it's a Sony movie. The other MCU Spiderman movies aren't on Disney+ either. (at least before I cancelled my sub)

Oh, excellent point. So yeah, whenever it lands on whatever... HBO or whatever.
