Report forum or site issues.

Post by Tawmis »

If you run into any issues on the forum, please post them here. I've locked/archived the original thread since it's so many pages deep.

New year, new thread! :)

I'm finding all the sudden that when I go to quick reply to a thread and hit submit that I have to relogin. Then when I do, my whole post is gone and I have to retupe it. I can use the back button on my browser to get it back and copy/paste, but this has happened every time now. Not sure if it's my end or the forum. Never used to happen before.

(didn't happen to this post ironically enough)

What browser? Are you using a cookie deleting extension?

Every blue moon that happens to me (not just here). I suspect a corrupt cookie/cache issue. I usually wipe it out, and log back in and it seems golden.

I was about to say I have no cookie handling addons, but apparently I do. I clicked something. Let's see what happens in the future lol.

Of course, the last time this happened to me I was on my phone. I was using the same browser (Firefox) with my account enabled to sync browser settings/bookmarks, but I don't think the Android app can support all the same addons. I'll have to look into that.

As I reported to Collector and Tawm (by PM) ... the same issue keeps happening to me. The forum keeps logging me out, and I have to sign back in about 3 or 4 times. After that, things seem to finally "click". *shrug* I noticed it happens randomly.

My tech specs are:

1. I'm running Chrome Version 97.0.4692.99 (the latest version).
2. I also have NoScript (an extension I can use to block scripts like Javascript etc.), but I allow all scripts from SHP.
3. Finally, I have AdBlock Plus turned on. But I don't think that's the issue.

Tawm's advice was:
As always, try disabling the extensions first. Just to see if one of them is doing something weird.

Next thing, rather than go to notifications - just go to the section of the forum (without clicking notifications) and see if you can reply without it logging you out.

Second, clear the cache and such. Because that can always be an issue. Mentioned it in the recently new "report forum issues" thread.

And then, if you have another browser, try that browser and see if you see similar issue (such as Firefox).
Well. I've had the two extensions for months with no issues, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

I always clear the cache after logging out.

I don't have Firefox, so I tried Microsoft Edge -- and the same thing happened. *shrug*

Any other ideas?

Definitely something specific to your machine. Otherwise it'd be universally happening to everyone.

And closing yer browser doesn't clear cache, if that's what yer assuming.

Yep, I'm aware of that. Before I close the browser, I Ctrl+Shift+Del to clear my cache. ;)

I've been having an occasional problem with this on my work(!) computer. I use Microsoft Edge to access SHP, and lately it seems to forget I'm logged in to SHP about once every two weeks or so.

I would think that the cache might be clearing all of my cookies, but I specifically keep all cookies for that browser and nothing else seem to be affected (password-wise/log-in-wise)...

Just happened to me again. Driving me nuts trying to nail this down. All cookies are allowed. Don't know what the problem is. This time I wasn't posting. I read one thread, then I backtracked and clicked on another thread and suddenly it's asking me to login again.

I use Pale Moon to browse here and never have an issue. I am using the extension "Cookies Exterminator" to delete all cookies from sites I have not whitelisted. I never have this sort of problem anywhere. The only thing that I can think of outside of cookie issues is opening a link in a private window will cause login issues.

Weird, I use Chrome, pretty much without issue. It happens very, very, very rarely.
The one time I do see it most frequently is when I click on the email that says I got a PM here. I click the link from the email, log in here, can read the PM - but if I click to go anywhere else, sometimes it has me log in. I am guessing it's something weird between the cookie being set by my webmail to here. But that's really the only time I see the weird "log out" issues.

Just to throw it out there - curious if folks have like malwarebytes, or security software that may be trying to manage things, and messing things up also.

Hmm. I use Malwarebytes (and have for a while), but I whitelisted this site with MB and never had a problem until about a week or two ago.

P.S. While I was reading this thread and writing my reply, I was logged off - twice - and had to log back on (twice). Aggghhhh.

In your case, MI, blame Canada.
I am sure that joke doesn't get old at all?

It's odd - I mean, the logging out - is definitely tied to cache/cookies issues. Because that's what "remembers" the fact that you're logged in.
