Leisure Suit Larry's Casino

Post by JohnnyPhantom »

Hey everyone,
I was thinking back on this game, and it's been a while since I played it. I know it's one of those games you can't play with DOSBox and needs a win32 machine/VM. But I'm curious, do you think with todays code crackers, hackers, technology, reverse engineering, and so on, that it might just be possible to have a private server created for all to connect to and enjoy this game as it was intended once again?

I know other old/taken down servers from the past have been rebuilt by fans for their communities (examples like Phantasy Star Online for Dreamcast and Gamecube, or private World of World craft servers that were all the rage during the first few expansions of the game) just curious if that could be done with LSL's Casino and if I might be able to help or even host it if need be. I have a ton of old and new computer equipment to try to build something for this project. I have a good feeling it's not possible, but hoping someone with the know how proves me wrong and it can be done.

Well anyway, just a thought.

Thanks Everyone! This site is still the best for all my Sierra needs!!

Drew Baringmore: Who? Oh, I remember him! He came through here last November. Unimpressive.
Larry Laffer: Yeah, maybe.
Drew Baringmore: Not him, Larry. You!

Is it possible? Sure. I mean someone recreated the INN servers. So I imagine, if someone spent the time to do it, they could probably figure it out.

I think the problem is, the time sink it takes to code, create, and then maintain - and no monetary value being given back.

Because as soon as they start asking for money, they're sure to get someone's unwanted attention.

It is beyond my abilities, but I would think that it could be done, but the amount of effort it would take makes it unlikely unless you could find enough people to have the demand and someone dedicated enough to put that much work into it. Without digging out my CD I think it probably used WON, with may have been REed to some degree. How much specific features that Larry's used may be an other factor.

It may be worth it to bring it up on some of the Sierra Facebook groups and get some interest going.

Thanks Collector,
It does use WON which I've seen some fans have brought back as WON2 for Half-Life and Counter Strike. It probably would be possible to get LSL Casino working in that as well, but seems like the site is broken a bit so contacting them and forums are non working at the moment.

Just a fun tidbit, I emailed Al Lowe about this as well, to which he replied
"I see zero chance of getting Larry’s Casino servers going again. But then, I had little to do with that part of the game. And the guys who did are long scattered. Haven’t seen them in decades! But, as sure as I say that with certainty, someone will pull it off through some internet magic. Here’s hoping. The game was really ahead of its time. I was proud of it."

It was a pretty great game ahead of it's time back then. The fact that Al Lowe was proud of it is only increasing my drive to see this happen.

Tell him that the even older Larryland is alive and well via INNBarn.
