Leisure Suit Larry stuff

Post by Tawmis »

I was cleaning off my external drive - and found where I clearly scrubbed these from somewhere, no idea where - figured I'd share'em.

I did chuckle when I saw that where ever I got this from - they used my LSL shirt photo.

Yeah - I figure someone might want this stuff. I am just trying to remember when I scrubbed it from.
It's not here. Not Sierra Chest. Not SierraGamers.
Definitely not any Facebook or anything.

He's Leisure Suit Larry, the winningest loser in computer game history ... maybe in the history of the world. ;)

Al Lowe has single-handedly undermined the moral fabric of an entire generation of computer users. He also created Leisure Suit Larry.

By the way, since when does Dynamix have anything to do with LSL? *confused* I've noticed their logo on the disk sleeves of LSL2, LSL3 and The Laffer Utilities.

It doesn't. They were part of the Sierra family of companies at that time, like GameArts was. (It says "PART OF THE SIERRA FAMILY" right under both logos.)

It's a common cost-cutting measure to include other divisions in general purpose marketing/packaging materials like this. Instead of having to print and store/warehouse one set of diskette sleeves that only has the Sierra logo on it specifically for Sierra games, a second set of sleeves with only the Dynamix logo on it specifically for Dynamix games, and a third set of sleeves with only the Game Arts logo on it specifically for Game Arts games, now all three games can can use the same generic diskette sleeve across a variety of brands.

By the 1990s, Sierra wasn't releasing very many "new" Game Arts games, so instead of the hassle of having to print a whole new run of diskette sleeves for any new small-ish production re-runs or any "found" Game Arts diskettes, they can just use these general purpose sleeves instead...

It helps to buy in bulk, as production costs usually decline with volume: 1 very large run [all three logos] versus 1 large run [Sierra-only] + 1 medium run [Dynamix-only] + 1 small run [Game Arts-only]. Not to mention the declining usage/popularity of 5¼" diskettes in general by this time.

It also works as cross-advertising/promotion ("Oh, Dynamix games are part of Sierra? I wonder what games they have?...").
