Lighthouse Play Through

Post by Tawmis »

I had similar feelings to NBS's first post (didn't read past that, to avoid spoilers) - I definitely remember playing this game, as some of it is muscle memory as I started. But I am an hour into playing and still at the light house.

But I feel the same way about how clunky the controls feel. I couldn't get out of a room, literally for a minute, because I couldn't get the cursor to go the right way.

I also don't care for the inconsistency. Sometimes you click items, and it will move it (finding your car keys) - other times, you need to click and drag (the key at the front door) items.

And that cube... I'm at the moving pieces for the bird/letter... I remember that much... but... moving that many pieces to make the bird in the circle...

I am still at it...

I just reread my playthrough thread. I forgot how much of a pain this game was. Have fun!

 I finally went the "easy" way with the box photo and had the game solve it. I'd get close. But then have to move a bunch of pieces and make it a mess again.
But I finally (do not get me started on having to click the thing at the top of the lighthouse to get to the power cable which is visible without doing so....) got to the "other side."
An hour and a half into the game...

I may need to replay Myst... because, so many of the puzzles in this game are so illogical.. and there's no "clues" to tell you how it might work...
Like the crab thing... I was ringing bells and pulling levers in all sorts of combos until something happened...
And the clicky girl...
Lord... I get she's "broken"...
But she has a metric ton of dialogue that's time consuming... lol

My commentary is going to be about a minute long, "The game is like Myst - but the controls are way more clunky. You can get stuck in a room trying to get out because of how clunky it is. Click on everything. Every tiny sprite. And, to wrap it up, I have no idea what I am doing."

I...

Am at a loss of words.

The controls are so clunky. I ended up at the volcano, and couldn't do anything there (there's the digger, but it won't do much but turn on).

So I wandered around the three screens.

Went back into the sub.

Jumped into the mini sub, thinking I gotta use this.

Spent....

Oh....

Two hours? Maybe more?

Trying to get the mini sub to detacth.

Finally did the game hint - and it said it won't detach until you're at the wreck.

And I was so flustered by that time, thinking how can I get there if you won't let me detach?

Only after 2 hours did I realize - it used the last Cords I put in.

I had thought that it "auto piloted" to the volcano as the next area I had to do...

Holy fark.

I don't remember this specifically, but I do remember the general frustration.

Well it is because I didn't enter the locations/longitude/latitude in a specific order. So the last one I entered was the volcano.

So when I went - it took me there. And I didn't even think I had a choice.

Thought that was the next place to go. And that I might have to do a few things - then leave - then come back (similar to the birdman's lair).

Well, it's because the last co-ordinance I put in was the Volcano, so when I couldn't do anything, I thought I had to do the mini sub.

But couldn't get the mini sub to go.

Which was because the mini sub will not detach - except at the ship wreck. And I was so flustered that I didn't even remember the shipwreck was another location.

And that I needed to go back in the sub - select that co-ordinance to go there.

Which I did, finally.

And that's where I am now.

And that...

has....

been....

a...

nightmare.

Most of what I figured out so far there....

Accidental. Just.

Clicking.

Clicking.

Clicking.

This game makes Codename: Iceman look like King's Quest VI.

Now to the train tracks... and this is inexcusable.

This game is rough...

My dislike for it is almost outshining Mask of Eternity...

At least MoE is fairly straightforward. No banging you head against the wall.

NBS - I just noticed you used ScummVM.
So I downloaded your game zip...

Let me say, one thing...
You're braver than I am.
I reached the 99 max saves.
Then started saving over the older ones.

Also - I went to "Got Baby" - because I've not reached the portal (see above post about it freezing)...
There's two things you have that I don't...

I also have way more clutter in my inventory...

I was using ScummVM since I have the GOG version which comes with it and the game (inexplicably) doesn't have the executable so I couldn't use DOSBox.

I haven't played the game in a few years, and I think I may be suppressing traumatic memories, so I don't really remember what those inventory items do or where I got them. I think I have an idea what the circuit board is for, but the map (I think?) is a mystery to me.

I'm not really sure about the bug with the digger. I don't think I've encountered that.
