If Quest for Glory would have continued...

Not finding any Glory in this whole Quest for Glory bit? Need a hint? Or just want to discuss Quest for Glory - this is the place to do it!

If Quest for Glory would have continued...

Post by Tawmis »

... what are some things you would have liked to have seen?

Maybe story wise?
Character wise?
Voice actors?

Gee, I don't know. (Why is it always up to me?) ;)

QfG5 wrapped everything up pretty nicely. As for QfG6 ... a rebellion against the king/queen (depending on if you took the throne, or if Elsa von Spielburg is now the queen!) :D

The rebellion is financed by our good friends, the Hesperian Mercenaries (and their backing from Nova Roma). So, off you trot from Marete (ancient Greece) to Nova Roma (ancient Rome) to negotiate with the Nova Roman bigwigs.

But they try to assassinate you! But you defeat them! :D But now you're stuck in enemy territory and have to make your way home by the overland route! (Cue lots of exclamation marks and emoticons!) :P

Anyway, on your way back home, you run into lots of ancient Greek/Roman-style mythological stuff and have to help the locals if you want to pass through. But time is ticking: the Nova Romans are preparing to invade Marete! Can you make it back there in time? And can you "recruit" a bunch of allies to help defeat the Nova Romans?

(And why would you want to "recruit" these allies? Because two reasons:

1. The Marete guards are basically useless; and
2. The Marete guards won't be enough to stop a war).

So, it's Quest for Glory ... but with a bit of Dragon Age: Origins mixed in! :D

How does that sound, hmm?

QFG5 did conclude the Hero's arc pretty well. Again, I'd start fresh. Maybe reference the Hero as Professor Emeritus of FACS. Since the games all have alternate versions of Earth cultures, maybe make a game that involves Asian or American cultures. Those haven't been done yet.

How about feudal Japan? :D We can see lots about samurai and ninja, etc.

Perhaps we could pick the Sengoku period (aka "The Warring States", roughly 1467 to late 1500s), when Japan was in the process of becoming a unified country. There are even "Hero units" here ... Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu are widely considered in Japan as the three "unifiers" who were instrumental in forging Japan into a single nation.

There were many kinds of soldiers at the time: anything from the well-known katana-swinging samurai to the lesser-known ashigaru (peasant soldiers), armed with naginata or yari (spears), yumi (bows), or the new matchlock arquebus. Wandering priests, journeying from shrine to shrine, were also commonplace - and they had their own weapons and ways to defend themselves. Finally, of course, were ninja; they didn't fight in wars, but were employed by all daimyo as spies -- primarily gathering intelligence, performing sabotage, and catching enemy spies. (I haven't mentioned ronin samurai, but of course they existed too, and were a complicating factor).

This is easy to translate to QfG. We open in any of the major powers of medieval Japan, where you can choose any of the above "classes" (e.g. samurai, priest, ashigaru, ninja, ronin etc.) This affects which weapons you can use, what your social standing is, and what jobs you're likely to do. You'll be asked to fight to either defend your daimyo, or conquer a neighbour. ;) Or maybe we can choose a time when Japan was already unified (or close to being so), but someone rises up to challenge your daimyo's authority, and it's your job to crush this rebellion! ;) The Kunohe rebellion and the Shimabara rebellion are perfect examples.

I wouldn't expect QfG to use real-world people's names or placenames, obviously. But would it be possible create your own (especially if you're fluent in Japanese)? Just wondering. :)
