Well, my last thread can basically be locked as i need no more help and QFG4 and got my speech working in 5. Dont know how, but i fired it up after finishing 4 and it worked. Anyways i was wondering collector if you had heard anything about a cursor error. When starting QFG5 and loading my saved game, upon start my cursor is an arrow. By right clicking, i can change to the hand and eye, but as soon as i move the cursor at all it changes right back to the arrow. I can run around with the arrow and all, but its just annoying as all hell to not be able to move the mouse if i wasnt to look or try to take something/talk to someone. Thing is, if i alt tab out of the game and then enter back into the game, the cursor stays as a hand or eye depending on what i want it to be. Im not exactly sure which way the game intends the cursor to work. Only problem is, by alt tabbing and making the cursor work the way i want, i cant play the dart game in the dead parrot in. It says i have to left click to pick up the dart and get the meter going, but nothing happens. Is there a keyboard command that will get it to work? Have you heard anything concerning this? Tawmis said KQ6 has a similar problem, but ive never had that problem in KQ6. Thanks once again in advance.

Re: Quest for Glory 5
Im an @!#$ collector. Apparently to get the Dart board wheel of fortune game to work i had to double click on my daggers at the bottom to get them in my hand to toss them. So, alt-tabbing out of my game gets the cursor to be the way i want it so far. Still though i would like to know which way the cursor is supposed to be, and which one isnt working correctly.

I'm afraid that I won't be of much help with QfG5. It's a completely different engine than the earlier games. I have not noticed a cursor bug in the game, but QfG5 has failed to catch my attention long enough play it through. I keep wanting to, but it'll have to wait until I have more time.
As far as KQ6 goes, the cursor bug occurs when playing the Windows version on XP. It is a nuisance since KQ6 is about the only Sierra game that the Windows version is so much superior to its DOS counter part.

ah crap... figures that the only version of kings quest 6 i havent played just yet. I was actually thinking about playing it thru after finishing QFG5 because the only time i played it i actually watched my sister play it so it should be a relatively fresh gaming experience. I got the lucky job of trying to make a map of the catacombs, but thats still not enough for me to even remember anything about it other than its a huge maze with a minotaur lurking in the middle somwhere, and i only know that due to my KQ6 3.5" HD version that has alexander coming thru a doorway in the maze with a nicely drawn minotaur looking ready to tear his head off. Although back to QFG5, Hell if you have time bro i just sent tawmis my paladin i built up thru QFG1-4, and now is a good a time as any if we are both going to play it thru (not sure if tawmis is but i am) if you have the time. Im a huge fan of magic as well so my paladin is almost as good with magic as he is with weapons and has all the spells and not due to getting assigned them by importing your hero and gaining missed things. I found them all and leveled them up. Only thing im missing is the thieving skills for obvious reasons. Never met a paladin that robs people
Is the KQ6 bug game breaking to the point where i should just play one of the 3 other versions of KQ6 i have? And does this bug happen all the time? Or is it just random depending on some unknown computer settings.

The cursor bug is always there. It is not deal breaking, just an irritation. The view of the cursor does not change with the function, i.e. if you change from hand cursor to walk, it will work as walk, but still look like the hand cursor. Dodging the cursor in and out of the game's window will refresh the cursor's view. It is still worth it for the Windows version's hi-rez dialog images.

Cool, its amazing that your knowledge of these old school sierra games is infinite. You are like this forums own wikipedia for old school adventure games.Collector wrote:The cursor bug is always there. It is not deal breaking, just an irritation. We are talking about the game that started me on the path to getting these games to run in XP. It was the one game that I refused to give up. As far as I know (and I frequent several game sites) I am the only one that was able crack the problem of KQ6 Win not starting on XP.

Re: Quest for Glory 5
Did you see my question in my other thread collector that i solved myself by i guessing speeding up the frame rate on my DOSBox .63 by hitting ctrl-F12 a few times. When i was fighting Ad Avis at the end i would get the staff out turned into a spear and by that time he was launching his fireball or if i was superfast i would get the joke of but seriously as soon as the dialogue ended as he was laughing he would immediately throw the fireball seriously giving me about .01secs to react which is impossible. Is there a patch that would have fixed that problem or is what i did basically the only way to fix that. I remember on my first run thru QFG4 on my old old computer with all the bugs and error 52s, it was hard to get the throw off in time but after about 20 tries i got it to work, but this time there was just no way possible. I read and looked at the patches page but none of them addressed this problem. I was gonna try one of the patches but it said i should start the game all over and being 5seconds from the finish i wasnt really willing to do that. Is there a fix for that?
*edit* i did download DOSBox .71 and tried there but it seemed even faster on that DOSBox version. Plus the way DOSBox .71 works i dont really like it as much. To me .63 is more like the old school dos prompt and i just feel more comfortable using .63. Oh well to each there own.

Just change cycles=auto to cycles=8000. The NewRisingSun patch addresses the Ad Avis end scene timer bug. Be sure to check on any relevant NRS patches before starting any Sierra SCI game. As far as DOSBox goes, there are some HUGE improvements in stability and compatibility in .7x over earlier versions. I cannot recommend .71 strongly enough.
