The future of ScummVM

A treat for Coktel Vision fans. The release of ScummVM version 0.10 (the version that supports all the Sierra AGI games) currently gives us the ability to play all three Gobliiins games, Ween and Bargon Attack. The latest Subversion (development) build of the interpretor now loads to more Coktel Vision games, Lost in Time and my favorite, Woodruff. Both seem playable, but might not be completable, yet.

So break out your copies and head over to scummvm.org to download the latest Subversion Build. ScummVM has become an indispensable tool for reviving many of the classic games from the Sierra family. For those that are unfamiliar with the project, you might also like to know that the download page also offers free legal downloads of the full versions of some adventure titles that ScummVM supports, like the talkie versions of Flight of the Amazon Queen and Beneath a Steel Sky by consent of the copyright holders.

I was just going to ask the same thing - what does this have over DOSBox?

There have always been problems with the Coktel Vision CD games in DOSBox. They don't even like running in Win 9x's DOS. Lost in Time CD is not completable in DOSBox and Woodruff CD is a Windows game that doesn't like XP. Lost in Time runs smoother in ScummVM than it ever did in DOS. I can't recommend ScummVM strongly enough for the Coktel Vision CD games.

With DOSBox and ScummVM the only thing that we need for all the Sierra classics is a "WinBox" tool for the Windows only Sierra games that hate the NT kernel.

ScummVM solves a lot of sync problems with the audio in CD games with an audio CD track for the sound. Just rip the audio track and compress to an OGG or MP3 track on your HDD. No CD needed, after you do.

I just checked and I have no Coktel Vision games! Were they a branch of Sierra like Dynamix?

Yes. All three Gobliins CDs with audio tracks on my HDD are just 217 MB, combined.

Hrm. When did they come along! It surprises me I didn't pick them up for the sheer fact that they were associated with Sierra back then!

Do you have a list of games they made?
