Hey guys,
I've been looking into playing this game recently, and was wondering if/how necessary it is to patch the version that comes from Steam. I kind of hate using Steam so I am just launching the exe out of the QFG5 folder. The game launched right into the menu but had no music until I started the intro movie, then back at the menu music was enabled. There were some hangups in character creation and quitting, but runs mostly fine. I can't find any readme for the patch and they weren't in the zip. Additionally I tried to run the 64x patch in the QFG5 directory but something's probably up with the folder structure since the patch could not detect the game.
So to reiterate I'm trying to figure out if I should patch this game before I start playing, using what's found at https://www.sierrahelp.com/Patches-Upda ... dates.html (or an archived version since it seems to be having troubles.)
Thanks very much.

Re: QfG5 patch 1.2?
I designed the original QfG GOG package, but I have no idea about the Steam version. That patch looks for the original Registry entries to locate the game. I don't know how Steam has done its configuration. The GOG release is more of a stand alone version and works out of the box.

Re: QfG5 patch 1.2?
Thanks, we'll see if I have any problems. Since there is no readme file can you warn me of any problems to watch out for? Also, once the game is patched, is there a spot in the menu can you find the version number?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Not that I know of. My repackaging of the 1.2 patch does copy a VERSION file to the game's folder, but that is not official. It is just to indicate that the patch has been installed for diagnostic purposes.
