Conquest of the Longbow is my favourite ... because I beat it. But hey, the writing is brilliant, and there are four (four?) endings. (Depends on how well or badly you played). But for the longest time, I couldn't beat it. I was always either stuck in the maze and Marian burned to death, or I couldn't win that stupid board game.
Conquests of Camelot is my least favourite by default, but I still like it. I just can't get past that %&@*ing Black Knight.

Hah! We are flipped - I love Arthurian legends so I loved Camelot. Camelot. Both games are good, but I think Camelot was a little more challenging-in-a-good-way with the puzzles.

(I could just leave Gawain, I suppose, but it wouldn't feel right. Plus, I would probably lose the game in the end if I did that)

I don't think you can abandon any of your knights and still win at the end. Conquests of the Longbow is arguably a better game. It has better art and music (partly thanks to the higher resolution and color option).
But where the game really shines is the dialog and how the game responds to whatever style you want to play. There are so many alternative solutions, that are all leading to either of the 4 endings, the game still responds with unique dialog to anything you try to do, even if it does not make sense.
And then there are all these death-message variations covered by a camp sequence. You'd think there are only a handful of them, but there are many many more for various situations and scenario's.
A speedrunner called One Short Eye made a documentary video on Longbow particulary zooming in on all the alternative solutions, dialog options and even went deeper into the strategy elements of the game and how poor choices in earlier battle situations have consequences on outcomes in later ones, especially the big robbery of the treasure. You can completely screw up in many different ways and still play the game to an ending....and the game keeps responding to you within that context no matter what you have done prior.
Longbow is really Sierra's hidden gem, lacking the popularity compared to more visible quests like KIng's Quest, but it's one of the best games they made. (together with the GK series, to my opinion)
