So let me start by saying, yes, I had Tomb Raider for the PS1. Never beat it. Never thought it was all that fun.
At some point, through EPIC, I got all three of the NEW Tomb Raider gamers for free (their weekly give aways).
So last week or so, I was bored, looking at all these games I had on EPIC that I got for free and never played.
I was looking for something like GEARS OF WAR to play and thought, "Let's try this Tomb Raider: Game of the Year Edition."
HOLY.
CRAP.
I could NOT put it down. This is NOT a normal Tomb Raider game. It has a freaking incredible story. GREAT characters. (So much so that you get angry when something happens to them!)
The boss battles are reasonable (if you're familiar with Gods of War, operates similar, wear them down, then need to press the right button at the right time).
This game is an EASY - EASY!!!!!!!!!!!!!- 10 out of 10. Higher, really.
I was genuinely surprised. It's from 2013 so most computers should have no problem running it these days. It does not look dated at all.
It's also (normal price) 20 bucks. But it's on sale for 4 bucks.
I'd strongly recommend it.

I started the second one, and do not enjoy it as much as the first. Key factors in the first they seem to have dropped in the second.

It's also the same price on Steam. Epic Games are having a Tomb Raider sale.
I would try it, but my only caveat is that I'm running out of hard drive space. Maybe storing my Steam and GOG games on the same drive wasn't such a good idea after all.
But hey! Now I have two drives, I can split those two between my C and D drives. (My C drive currently has only Windows). Is moving Steam and its games to C drive a good idea? *thinks* I'm guessing it might delay the Windows load -- is that right?
To do this, I guess I'll have to uninstall Steam etc. from the D drive and reinstall it on C. That's right, isn't it?
Lastly, Tawm, you mentioned God of War. I'm thinking of picking it up (it's on sale on Steam), but I'm a little put off by the size (70 GB???). Also, is it a difficult game (in the same way that, say, Elden Ring and Dark Souls are?) I don't have much time to game these days, so I'd rather not try killer games like that. =\
(Is it me, or is Dark Souls the equivalent of what roleplayers used to call "Killer DM"? Not sure if they still do).

I think uninstalling Steam would uninstall all of your games as well. Uninstalling then reinstalling the game itself to a different drive would work, but Steam is supposed to make it easy to just migrate the game from one drive to another.Rath Darkblade wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 4:57 pm I would try it, but my only caveat is that I'm running out of hard drive space. I've never done this since I only have one drive, but this seems to be the easiest way to move a game to a different drive and avoids having to re-download everything.

I like Epic, because every week they put 1 or 2 games for free. Sometimes they're clunkers, but sometimes, it's a game like Tomb Raider: Game of the Year Edition, which honestly, is one of my favorite games in a long time.Rath Darkblade wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 4:57 pm It's also the same price on Steam. I don't have much time either. Tomb Raider install was because I had insomnia and I was bored.Rath Darkblade wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 4:57 pm Lastly, Tawm, you mentioned God of War. Suddenly, I couldn't put it down.
I've only ever played the first God of War.
However, I did play the XBOX knock off - Viking: Battle for Asgard. (Uh, which until now, I thought was XBOX Exclusive... I... may need to get this on PC one day and replay it there!) - ahem, anyway, immensely enjoyed it.

Re: Tomb Raider - Game of the Year Edition.
So I beat the second Tomb Raider (Rise) of this series about a month ago, and just beat Tomb Raider: Shadow, last night.
Such a good series of games. Truly. I would have never suspected I'd EVER say that about a Tomb Raider game - but these three games are so different than the original Playstation style of Tomb Raider games.
There characters in this have so much depth.
It's truly amazing.
So I'd strongly recommend, if you ever get the chance...
Tomb Raider (2013 release)
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Those three games, in order, tell a great story with amazing characters. 10/10. Easy.

Re: Tomb Raider - Game of the Year Edition.
I tried looking up these games, and apparently they're classified as "action-adventure games".
I was confused, so I looked up what that means. Google informed me that "An action-adventure game is a video game hybrid genre that combines core elements from both the action game and adventure game genres."
Gee, thanks a lot, google. I figured that much out myself.
So, what does "action-adventure" game mean? "Action" could be an FPS, or platformer. "Adventure" nowadays refers to almost any game that has adventure elements (even "pixel-hunter" games), but it always makes me think of the old Sierra games.
Thanks!

Re: Tomb Raider - Game of the Year Edition.
So ... it's action adventure.
I kid. So it's, obvious, about Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) - but this takes her back to before she's this "ultimate bad ass" that she's known for. She's obviously still doing incredible feats, but she's not the snarky Lara Croft from previous games. The game builds her up.
The game itself, has... plenty of action. This means, enemies who come at you and attack you. (You can enable the combat to "EASY" mode and even enable "Auto AIM" as well, so if combat isn't your thing, this makes it infinitely easier). But there's also segments, where you use stealth to take down enemies (cover yourself in mud, use plants to hide in and grab people when they're separated from the others). There's puzzles that you need to figure out - like being stuck in a cave, that has the waterway blocked - and you find a torch, light some barrels that float towards the blockage and blow it up. There's extra tombs to raid (not mandatory) that have very fun and often times, complex puzzles to figure out, that often reward you with character abilities (holding your breath underwater longer, adrenaline that allows you to take less damage after performing specific types of kills - head shot, stealth kills, etc). These "powers" for lack of a better word, can also be "purchased" with XP (so you get XP for doing things, like killing animals for skins, feathers, etc., as well as taking down enemies, discovering areas where you learn various languages). There's "campfires" along the maps you can use to "fast travel" to any campfire you've unlocked, so you can easily go back to an area if you wanted.
Here's an excellent play list I dug up that shows the first one... has the intro and you can skip to game play too...
