KQ1-6 Manuals

Post by mdibb »

I puchased the Collector's Series many years ago and have just recently been able to install and run them thanks to the new DOSBox installers. However, The CDs did not come with manuals and such and I am having trouble downloading them from the SierraHelp.com links. It starts to load the PDF and freezes browser (have to use Task Manager to end task or else reboot the PC. I am running XP Pro SP2 and IE8. Have tried to dowload with IE7 and Mozilla, same results. I received a error once while trying to get IE to recover. The error received was: HotLinking is Not allowed. Any ideas?

Have you browsed the cd to see if the manuals are on there?

p.s. I just downloaded one of the manuals to see if the links were working. It was slow but it worked ok.

It sounds like you may be having trouble with the PDF plugin. Try right clicking the link and choose to save link. You must do it from this site or you will get the Hot linking disallowed page. I found other sites that were leaching my files. All of the files on this site are publicly available, but only from here.

I feel a bit silly right at the moment. I guess I've been out of work for too long and forgot to check the inter-relationships between IE and Acrobat. I needed to open Acrobat Reader (ver 9) and deselct the Display in Browser option (under Edit > Preferences) in order to force IE to open the document in an Acrobat window instead of a browser window. Then, I had to select File > Save Copy in order to save it. The clue was the comment about the plug-ins. I now have the manuals and look forward to playing the Quests, but not too much as I still need to look for work. Thanks all!! :D

You beat me to the punch. Was just going to suggest this. This is actually a HUGE glitch at where I work and the #1 call we always get in regards to "PDFs not working" where I work!
