I simply wanted to call attention to this: Pappy's Golden Age Comics Blog
It has some classic comics there from the 1950s, and probably before, which I found to be very amusing. Maybe you might laugh at them too? :) That's all!
Hah! Ye can always make a new thread! :) It's allowed! :D
I'd not heard of this blog. Older comics are always so... campy. When I re-read Avengers (all digitally), and was reading the early issues, it was a little of a struggle.
Campy? I'm not sure how. Ridiculous, definitely; sometimes racist (or bordering on racism - note the depiction of the "gypsy fortune-teller"), sure. Possibly sexist. But campy? *shrug* Oh well. I definitely haven't read enough of these to be able to judge.

Very nice indeed. Just wondering, though: Are these from ... *struggles to remember the comic name* ... er, ElfQuest? The depiction of elves (or elf-like creatures) reminds me a lot of ElfQuest.

RE: Campy. Read some of those old Marvel comics from the 50s and 60s. Campy. "Gee Willies, Iceman! That's sure the cold shoulder!" :D

Hmm ... once again, my post was deleted.

I don't remember what I was going to say, except that yes, "Gee willikers, Batman" is certainly campy. But maybe not every comic from the 50s and 60s is campy, just Marvel ones? ;)

OK. Well this time I can confirm it was there.
I'd even quoted it.

Um ... all I was trying to say is, the 50s and 60s Marvel comics ("Gee Whiz, Spider-Man!") sound very campy.

Were 60s DC comics also campy? (Like the 60s "Batman" show, with Adam West? That was VERY over-the-top. WHAM! POW! BANG!)

SBS here started playing the 60s Batman, and I tuned in, out of curiosity. Batman in a blue-and-grey skin-tight outfit... entering a restaurant ... and asking formally for a table by the wall ... to avoid attracting attention. :?

I know Batman's come a long way since then. But the 60s Batman half-confuses me and half-cracks me up. ;)

I am sure DC was; but my collection of DC comics is only "modern" (as in 2000's, and a few from the 80s).

Was bored - and decided to do some digital coloring. I purposely didn't make it exactly like the cover, mostly because I hate white space in coloring. Feels incomplete when I do that. :D

In the meantime, here's some coloring of ElfQuest I did. Some of them are me revisiting and redoing ones I'd done before.

Whoops, I missed this. I just wanted to say, nice job. The second cover (with the pink ... ball? orb?) looks a bit strange - as if the guy in the back is throwing a splat of Bazooka Joe bubble gum. (I assume no-one here remembers Bazooka Joe gum and I'm the only one? ;) If you remember Bazooka Joe too - yay!) :)

I can't say much about this one, except nice job. It's kind of weird to look at a picture of someone who's half-colored-in and half-not. (I almost said "half-colored", but then I remembered that the word "colored" has a racist history, so ... yikes!!! I didn't mean it like that, honest).

Very nice. :D Let's look at them one by one:

1. This is very nice. :) Slight nitpick - the elf on the left looks like she (?) has no pupils, which is weird. *shrug* She also has a slightly dopey expression, but of course that's not up to you!

2. He-elf with white hair and blond she-elf. I am not sure what is happening here. What are they doing? It almost looks like he is putting a ring on her finger. Are they getting married? *magnifies* Ah, OK. He is giving her ... a stone on a chain? An amulet? Clearly a solemn moment, but it's hard to know why. Context, please? :) Regardless, this is good. Nicely done. :)

Slight nitpick: her bicep is very white - almost translucent.

3. The redhead and the big blondie with the purple star on his/her head. Ah, a Sexy Shot. ;) But wait -- *magnifies* -- is that a rearing horse?? I thought it was blondie's bicep or something. What the heck is going on? Well done, at any rate ... REALLY well done. But I'm still confused.

No criticisms here! This is too well done for that! :D

4. Smirking he-elf carried out by three half-dressed she-elves. OK, so, they've just passed through a bead curtain. The he-elf is clearly expecting Sexy Times. :P But the middle one is holding her nose, so I suppose she thinks he stinks? Also, all the women are barefoot (except the leading one), and none of their outfits leave much to the imagination.

Am I wrong, or am I right, in thinking that this is going to add badly? ;) I'm predicting that one of these will happen:

a. Take Me To Your Leader. He is being led to their queen, who will either be Older and Wiser (or Crueler! :twisted), or Young and Sexy and Cruel.

b. Take Me To Be Sacrificed. Unbeknownst to him, he is about to be fed to something big and horrible, or be put in a pot, or sacrificed to the sun god, or similar.

c. Death By Snu-Snu. Obviously this will be for a laugh, and he will be reprieved at the last minute by something that won't make any sense. ;)

Am I right? Am I wrong? Am I even close? Beautifully done, in any case.

By the way, small question: what is that ... cat-looking thing ... on the far left? Not criticizing, just a bit confused. :)

Thanks for sharing! :D Good work.

If you click the photo (so it enlarges) and then again (if like mine it doesn't go full size), you will see she has narrow green slits, for her pupils.

Both figures here are male. :)
So what's happening is the elf on the left (white hair, his name is Skywise) is giving the elf to the right (blond hair, his name is Cutter), his lodestone. The lodestone is very, very, very, very important to Skywise. And in this scene they're parting ways, potentially forever, and it's Skywise giving Cutter the thing that's mattered the most to him. Skywise and Cutter are childhood friends and best, best, best, friends.

It's ElfQuest's version of a horse, called a zwoot. They're like a horse and camel mixed together.
In this scene, Cutter (the blond, who is male) and Leetah (the woman he is behind) have just accepted they are meant to be together.
In the same issue, a zwoot (actually a pack of them) run wild - and strike Dewshine (the unconscious elf), and it's Leetah (who is normally very placid, laid back, not one for action) leaps in to save Dewshine (which is the scene of her holding Dewshine below in the lower right), while Scouter, Dewshine's then boyfriend is furiously trying to kill the zwoot before it tramples Dewshine (and Leetah).

This scene isn't from any of the comics, it's something unique that Wendy Pini did. The scene is showing Skywise, who is notoriously, the big lover of all, being carried out because he stinks. The other elves (desert elves known as Sun Folk who live in Sorrow's End) are more pure, where as elves like Skywise, Cutter (and their tribe) have wolf blood in them. So Skywise, Cutter (and the rest of that tribe known as Wolfriders) are more likely to smell dirty and filthy where as the Sun Folk are quite clean.

The cat is actually a wolf. :)
Probably Skywise's wolf.

And thank you!

Side note - if you ever want to read one of the best comic stories ever - the original ElfQuest story ran 20 issues and it was epic.

And you can read it for free - and legally - on ElfQuest's website:
