Well, it's a fun idea. I couldn't say much about achievements in KQ games, but I think that achievements in Sierra games would be a great idea - ESPECIALLY if we use them in an RPG like the QfG series. There would be an extra incentive to replay the games (aside from the fact that they are incredibly fun). Heroine's Quest showed how this could be done. :)

As for what kind of achievement names... hmm.

QfG3
- Bridging the Gap - as fighter (or paladin), beat Uhura in the bridge battle
- Contact Bridge - as fighter (or paladin), beat Yesufu in the bridge battle (a pun on the game "Contract Bridge")
- Staffing Solutions - as a mage, create your own staff
- Drumming Up Support - as a thief, steal the Drum of Magic from the Laibon's hut
- Shake Spear[/i] - as a thief, steal the Spear of Death from the Leopardman Leader's hut
- Sneaky Diplomat - as a thief, steal both the Drum of Magic and the Spear of Death, then return them to their rightful owners
- Monkey Friend - as a thief, release Manu from the cage in the Leopardman Leader's hut
- Why Are You So Annoying, Friend of Rakeesh? - stay in the Laibon's hut to hear him say "Why did you come here, friend of Rakeesh?" ten times, even though you don't have to (because of faster computers) - just for old times' sake
- The Heart of the Wild - as any class, use the dispel potion on Johari to reveal her true form
- You Light Up My Life - as a mage, learn the Lightning Bolt spell

QfG4
- BONSAIIIIII!!! - as any class, rescue the Bonsai Bush from the goo and replant it in Erana's Garden (a pun on "BANZAIIII!!!", of course)
- Family Togetherness - unite Boris and Olga
- Family Togetherness, Redux - unite Nikolai and Anna's ghosts (and gain a nifty hat)
- How to Get A Head - give the hat to Bonehead (thus getting "ahead"/"a head"... groaaaaaan) ;)
- Hello, Dolly - get the doll for Tanya (the little girl who becomes a vampire)
- Grave Embarrassment - saving Igor from the grave (thus the title becomes "little graveyard humour, there") ;)
- Purity of Heart - as paladin, reclaim the Paladin Pyotr's sword from the wraith's mound - a difficult and lengthy quest, but very worth it, as this is the best sword in the game
- The Key to your Dilemma - solve the puzzles in Dr Cranium's antechamber and unlock his door

...and so on... what do you think? :)

I dig it. See that's what I was looking for this thread to be about! I think it'd be pretty fun to come up with a funny list of possible "Achievements" for these older games!

Hmm...

I think that the best way to implement achievements into these kinds of adventure games would be to give them out for things that aren't mandatory to complete the game, so that not everyone would have the same achievements. Things like easter eggs, unique item combinations that don't solve anything, and nonessential exploration.

I'll think of a few examples later and add them.

The point that Tawm was making was not for a discussion of if it would be a good idea or how to implement it, but as a forum game to come up with achievement titles for existing quests or side quests within the old games.

A couple off of the top of my head, admittedly not very good, but as an example:

For failing to jump off of the conveyor belt in time in the beginning of SQ3 - "Achievement Unlocked - 'What am I, chopped liver?'"

When Rosella finishes cleaning the cottage in KQ4 - "Achievement Unlocked - Sweating to the Moldies"

Yes! I am just looking for "Achievement" titles for even normal actions in the game. (I am very aware of how achievements are actually typically rewarded! Just looking for fun comments/achievement titles if they WERE rewarded for doing the correct actions in the game)

I think achievements can be a lot of fun in adventure games. "Torin's Passage" already had the perfect set-up for one with "Use Bagpipes on Lucretia" when you unlocked a special message from Al Lowe. I also implemented them in my own game where you got special trophies for finding all the deaths, solving secret puzzles, and licking floors. It's just an optional scavenger hunt on top of the main game.

For LSL5 or LSL6:
Shameless and Proud: Used Zipper Icon on EVERYBODY!
Too Shy, Shy: Didn't use Zipper Icon at all!

KQ5:
A Thirsty Boy: Drank at every oasis
Cruel and Unnecessary Punishment: Tried to trap a civilian in the genie bottle
Simple Logic: Tried to throw the pie at the snake, witch, or bear
Bye, Bye Birdie: Tried to bury the wounded Cedric at sea

Police Quest 1:
OCPD: Walked around your patrol car ten times in a row
I Rule These Streets: Never not have your siren on.
Arrested Development: Read everybody their Miranda rights.

Hmmm... this topic seems familiar. It's almost like someone made a thread about this before. ;)

Yikes... nearly 5 years ago???

Deja Vu
Realise that a thread you created "a long, long time ago in a galaxy far away" has been started again by someone else.

(...or the achievement could be named "Haven't I seen this before?") ;)

Potentially, I agree. My concern is just that, even though adventure games have (thankfully!) moved away from the possibility of unwinnable states, this would potentially be return to that. Any action you take might potentially completely lock you out of an achievement for that playthrough. And there's often no way of knowing beforehand which actions those would be (without using a guide).

Here's a few:

Instant Replay! - Some actions are so stupid, people can't help but watch them again. (SQ1VGA, stick your hand in acid or walk through a laser gate)
Unlock Your Mind - As the key to the heart is through the stomach, the key to the mind is through the nose. (QFG1, successfully pick your nose with a lockpick.)
Pick of Death - Some things aren't meant to be picked. (QFG1, unsuccessfully pick your nose with a lockpick.)
Hardcore Boardgamer - "Never give up, never surrender!" - that's your boardgaming mantra. (SQ5 - Win Starships and Spacemines without saving.)
Play. Lose. Repeat. - What bests you only makes you stronger. (SQ5 - Win Starships and Spacemines with saving; title references the movie Edge of Tomorrow's alternate title, Live. Die. Repeat.)
Stop Making Me Fall! - Pratfalls are funny, but repeated exposure can be painful. (KQ6 - Make Prince Alexander fall off the first screen of the Cliffs of Truth three times.)
