Something that I always thought would be really nifty would be to take the old Interaction magazine PDF's that Ken has hosted on SierraGamers, break them down into individual pieces, and put it all together as a website... kinda like an interactive history of Sierra through print media.

When you think about it, the Interaction magazines really do provide the entire history of Sierra... and a website format would give a great deal of interactivity and would be quite novel I think. It could be categorized like an wiki, complete with cross-referencing (so if, for example, a visitor is looking at an article about King's Quest IV, the site could show the visitor other articles that pertain to King's Quest IV).

It could also provide a visual time-line of the growth of Sierra... and it would be very easy to tie all of the existing Sierra-themed websites (such as Sierra Chest, QFMG, SHP, etc) into it... so if a visitor, for example, looks up an article about Phantasmagoria, the site could provide the user with all articles in Interaction that pertain to Phantasmagoria (including Johnnie Magpie snippits about Scary Quest way back in 1991), a link to Sierra Chest's page on Phantasmagoria, a link to the SHP page for Phantasmagoria, and a link to the appropriate SHP forum.

Just a thought of course...

Well I just been doing a crash course on setting up Wikis, myself. For anyone that wants to create an SCI game of their own, here is the product of my endeavors over the past three or so weeks:

I looked through that wiki a couple of days ago.... looks really good if you ask me.

It is already showing up in the search engines in spite of its young age. This is the first that I have mentioned it here. I don't have it linked anywhere and as far as other web sites, it has only been discussed on the SCI Programming and the ScummVM boards. I'm curious, how did you find it?

Ah, I see. I had forgotten about it. I haven't made a formal announcement here because I didn't think it would be of much interest to most here. It is intended to be a complete resource for those making SCI games. If anyone wants to make an SCI0 game you will want bookmark the http://sciprogramming.com forum and the new Wiki.

It caught my attention because I have an interest in one day owning an MT-32 and as such, the thread title caught my eye. I have also poked around SCI Studio and consider myself a hobbyist SCI tinkerer (I lack the programming experience and knowledge to call myself an SCI programmer).

And of course, I am an avid fan of Sierra On-Line in all of it's myriad forms... and learning more about the engines Sierra created and used falls right into my lap as a worthwhile pursuit.

I am actually pretty excited to be implementing my idea. It's a great way to preserve InterAction magazine and there is ample opportunity to turn it into something of an encyclopedia (err... wikipedia). You'll note that I have already got the entire first issue done and have created links for each title mentioned in that issue to Sierra Chest, MobyGames, and the appropriate Sierra Help Page forum. So, if someone stumbles across my project and reads Roberta's Tips for Adventurers and clicks on her mention of Mystery House, not only can they visit Sierra Chest's dedicated page, they can also take a peek at the MobyGames listing and they can come to the Other Games forum here on SHP to discuss.

I'm not going to actively promote the project until I reach 50% content-complete (which translates into having about half of the InterAction magazines converted... so somewhere around the 1991 issues). This will be slow going, as I am a one-man operation and I'm using MS-Paint as my screen capture software. **lol**. But... I'm unemployed at the moment and with the holidays, it's not like I have much else to do aside from job hunting, playing games, and working on the project.

I don't know anything about the software you are using or its limitations, but if you were using WikiMedia (the same as Wikipedia's) I could be of some help getting you started. I have contributed on various Wikis in the past, but these were mostly just quick edits to fix typos, broken links, etc. I had never started a Wiki from scratch until this one. I have learned a great deal, not just on formatting entries, but also in setting up, customizing and administering a Wiki.

I'll keep that in mind and shoot you any questions I might have while getting this all going. Thank you.

Just a quick update on the progress of the wiki... Issues 1-3 have been converted and are fully viewable. There's still some individual links to games that have not been put in yet (such as Mixed-up Mother Goose), but the actual articles and advertisements for the first 3 issues are there.

All articles have been tagged with their appropriate subjects, and it is possible to search for a subject from any page by using the Search box or by selecting one of the page tags (subjects which have more hits will be in a bigger font, so articles about, by, or containing information about Ken Williams will appear in a much bigger font than Cranston's Manor, for example).

It's a nice walk down memory lane, that's for sure. I'll be taking a break from the project for a couple of days and resume after the first of the year. When I resume conversion work, I'll be working with full-color issues, so no more black-and-white stock.
