Poor, poor Cedric. He doesn't deserve such hatred. He's so cute. I mean: he's an owl. He has a vest. What's not to like?
Anyway, can't wait to see his retrospective of KQ6, the best of the series.

"Hey, look! A stick! IN 3-D!!!"
KING'S QUEST VII: THE PRINCE-LESS BRIDE!
Okay, this is easily his funniest review yet.

And he mispronounced Gila Monster! Ok, I guess most people that don't live somewhere where the lizards are indigenous, wouldn't have noticed that

That brought back some horrible memories. Now I remember why I hated it. But a lot of the crap, particularly with the gods, I don't even remember at all. Is some of that stuff optional? Or have I blocked that much out of my head?

I've never played KQ7 through. Never even made it past the first chapter. Valanice was always so annoying. So it was interesting (and horrifying) to watch through that retrospective.

Aw I thought he would do a retrospective of the remakes. Oh well, a nice lengthy let's play is nice too.

I've always found the KQ series to be the worst and most overrated of Sierra's franchises. The lone exception was KQ6 and my guess is that this was due to Jane Jensen's involvement.
Roberta Williams may be a pioneer but she completely failed to evolve with the medium as a designer and storyteller.

I think you have to take into account -
King's Quest I, II - Nothing could really be done. She was just making an adventure game, and was limited by what they could do. Couldn't put too much story without sacrifice code.
King's Quest III - I believe she really began developing the story and the characters within King's Quest for this game.
King's Quest IV - All kinds of ground breaking stuff (night and day times), enhanced graphics, and I thought she did an excellent job with characters.
King's Quest V - Once again, ground breaking stuff (graphics and new interface), and once again, defines the characters within the game.
King's Quets VI - Chalk full of incredible characters.
King's Quest VII - Lots of characters, each very "Disney-esque" - perhaps not the most defining game ever, but the characters were cute and fun and really hit their mark, I think.
King's Quest VIII - Never happened.
Mask of Eternity - Well, I don't have any kind words here...

Wow, I couldn't disagree more with what you said. I doubt you'll find many that would. Tawnis gave a very good deffense to your statement. There's a reason why the KQ series did so well for so many years & why there are so many devoted fans to this day.

This is how I see it:
Williams was a good designer, who could see future gaming trends and didn't mind experimenting with new tech. Unfortunately, she wasn't a very good story teller. She wasn't terrible, but with the exception of KQ6, none of the KQ games had a very strong and engaging storyline.
Jensen, on the other hand, is the exact opposite. She knows how to write a very captivating story, but she's not a great designer. To be honest, she's somewhat behind the times in many ways.
The above is why KQ6 -- which had Williams as the designer and Jensen as the writer -- is probably lauded as one of the best Adventures ever made.
