Well... if not a single game from one of the most legendary game designers of all time is included... Totally biased and not worth voting for.
I don't think they had someone who knew a lot about games doing this. It looks like they're putting games that are (or were) very popular or exceedingly well known.
In addition, they're method for placing games into categories is, at best, severely flawed. Like I said in my previous post, there doesn't seem to be any logic behind their choices. Many of the games they chose are on multiple platforms, yet they list it for only one category or another.
Even their categories are bizarre. They place "DOS/Windows" under Era 4, which runs from 1995 to 2002. DOS games were dying in 1995, mostly due to Win95. If anything, DOS should've been listed in Era 2 (1983-1989) and Era 3 (1989-1994) instead.
When I found this I was excited, but I should've looked it over first. Considering the timespan, I had assumed some classic PC games (like
King's Quest) would be included.

*watches*
*laughs at the ending music (the one that runs over, "In contrast, it has 8 Mario games..." etc.)* That music sounds very
Benny Hill-esque (i.e. very, very silly), which is, I guess, what the Smithsonian is.
What music is it? Curious minds want to know...

I don't know who wrote it, but you may have it without knowing... It is Circus 2, one of the unused pieces of music on the Gabriel Knight 3 CDs.

I sent Smithsonian a mail, and they actually sent it to the curator. Here's hoping...

O-kay... According to the curator assistant, the games on the list aren't the only ones that will be used in the exhibition. Of the 24 in my video, Myst will definitely be in it.
And Smithsonean was kind enough to link to my video on the voting website. Views went up from 13 to 64 all of a sudden.

The people at Smithsonian sure are friendly! The curator of the exhibition wrote me a friendly letter, explaining some of the choices he had to make, particularly regarding leaving off earlier computers (like Apple II and Amiga), which he really didn't like doing. He also explained he does believe E.T. deserves a place in the exhibition.
If anyone else would like to comment on his exhibition by mailing him, I highly recommend it.

May one ask why?

I would, but being in Australia means that my mail probably won't even get there before the exhibition.

Rath, I think BBP means email, not regular mail.

That seems to be a pretty reasonable list to me. I especially agree with the earlier console choices - Atari, Coleco, C64. SNES & DOS/Windows were right-on. That's about as far as my gaming experience could take me (except for Wii, which their selection seemed OK with me too).

(Ironic as I just posted this in Mass Effect 2 thread earlier and was too lazy to try and remember what the name of this thread was!)

Checked the list over and over again. Psychonauts isn't on it. That game is the whole reason this she-bang should be even happening. Man, it's just like the Academy snubbing "Scott Pilgrim" all over again.
I officially renounce my faith in art. If Halo 2 is considered art and Psychonauts isn't, then consider this my formal protest: I am now an artheist. Art isn't real; it's just some pretty pictures, a committee, and a popularity vote.
EDIT: added angry face

Would it help if I said I never heard of Psychonauts?
