Those files were there, but I went ahead and typed in those commands anyway. It said both succeeded. But it still asks for cd and the diag log still reads the same.

That was to allow a script in the installer to run properly. The installer would need to be run again. Some that have had trouble restoring their Windows scripting have resorted to reinstalling Windows to correct these kind of scripting errors, but this seems a bit drastic. One outside possibility might be that your security software is interfering with the Windows scripting.

I did run the installer again after those commands and still asks for cd. What exactly do you mean by security software? Do you mean the antivirus, uac, or what? I disabled the antivirus and that didn't work.. Does this installer rip the red book as well? If not I may just stick with the normal cd installation..

Security software is anything you have installed to prevent viruses, spyware, adware or any malware as well as things like 3rd party firewalls, etc. UAC is just part of Windows and would not interfere with the scripting engine. I am not going to try to find the problem with your Windows scripting, but you could try to manually do what the script does. What the installer's script is supposed to do is determine the short name (DOS 8.3 character limitation) path to the game's installed folder to write the DRIVE.CFG configuration file in the DATA subdirectory. Find the short name of the all of the folders in the path to the installed folder and open the DATA\DRIVE.CFG file in Notepad and replace what is there with this path on the first two lines.

Code: Select all

C:\Dynamix\EARTHS~2
C:\Dynamix\EARTHS~2
Note that yours may be different. If you run command instead of cmd, you will see the DOS names of any files or folders. If you CD into the Dynamix folder and run the DIR command, it will display the names of all of the files and folders in the DOS 8.3 names. Use the name for the ES2 in the DRIVE.CFG file.

I have Windows 7 64bit and I can't get the installer for Earthsiege 2 to run. A message comes up saying the program is incompatible with windows 64bit but I have no idea how to get it working even if I could, any suggestions?

That is why I wrote the new installer. The original is a 16-bit executable and will not run on Windows x64. Use the installer from this site.

I spent many joy filled hours playing this old game and finally found the files for it as a download from old-games. Files were extracted to it's own folder on my main drive (not in Program Files) and I've tried to run them but can't seem to get that to work. Is there a certain order in which to initialize the game loading or setup. I'll try to post the contents of the folder if you need to see the files but I'm pretty sure they are all there. I just need to know which ones to initialize first. The CD's are always so easy because they do it for the user. I'm not so familiar with the structures of games. Please help if you can.

thanks,
Checker

Can't really support abandonware. Abandonware copies are ripped, hacked, cracked and altered in other ways that cause unpredictable behavior. All of my installers are base on legitimate copies and should work with any real copy of that version. Too many problems with abandonware to be able to troubleshoot what is wrong.

The good news is that you can get this game very cheaply:

Man, am I glad I found this place. I've been itching to play my old copy of EarthSiege 2 on my new computer.

After running into problems with the CD's install, I went looking on the internet, and ended up here. After downloading the installer provided by this site, which seemed to work, I tried to run both the Desktop shortcut the install provided, and the source .EXE from the Dynamix folder.
Both provide the same error: "This program is not supported on this operating system." If I go to the SIERRA folder for EarthSiege 2 in Program Files (x86), and run that .EXE, it goes through all the trouble of changing the resolution and color settings, but then asks me to insert the disc--even though the disc is already in.

I've changed compatibility for all of the .EXEs to run in Windows 95 compatibility, but to no avail.

Any ideas?

Notes:
I'm running Windows 7. I can provide a dxdiag if needed, though it doesn't seem necessary.
I've restarted after the installation.

Also, help or not, I have to say it's pretty awesome what you're doing here. These games deserve to be played.

Sorry that it took me a while to respond. I was investigating what has gone wrong with the installer. I had the game installed on my hard drive, but discovered that it no longer worked. I did a clean install with the installer that I know was working on my Win7, but found that it still did not work. I am fairly certain that some Windows update has broken the compatibility patch. I will have to remove the download until I can get it sorted out, but it will take some time with not ETA. I apologize for the inconvenience.

In the mean time, the ES1 and StarSiege installers work, if you have either.

As posted above, issues crept into the Earthsiege II installer, so I removed it from the downloads. The Earthsiege I installer will not work for it. The first game was a DOS game and the installer makes use of DOSBox to get the game to run on modern Windows. The second game was a Windows only game with completely different files. The Earthsiege I installer will not work for Earthsiege II. You could try a Virtual Machine with Windows 9x installed in it.

Well, after another attempt at installing Earthsiege II ver. 1.0 onto my Windows 7 Home Edition (no idea how to check to see what version I have), I have followed the instructions left at this particular website page and following this Youtube video. So far, I have yet to see the infamous "32-bit incompatible with 64-bit" problem but another one has arisen:

"Please Insert ESII CD and restart"

At the moment, I am currently stumped. Can anyone advise me as to what I might have done wrong?

I have not spent much time on the game to work out what it does not like about Win 7, nor am I likely to do so at anytime in the near future. All of the fixes that I had devised were for XP. The first link of yours has how to remove the need of the CD. Another option would be to buy a copy of Starsiege. My Starsiege installer works well.
