Re: Hunter Hunted music
Never used Deamon Tools before. Probably did something wrong.
Here's what I did.
- I created the Hunter.bin and Hunter.cue with Magic ISO and placed both files in a new folder c:\sierra\hunted
- Downloaded Daemon Tools in its default location (C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite) and mounted hunted.cue. As I mounted it, the install screen for Hunted Hunted appeared (I exited at first) and in the lower window of Daemon Tools appeared [DT - 0] (J:) HUNTED
- The new J: drive also listed in my explorer and the content was the CD content of Hunter Hunted
- Created a bat file with the following text:
"C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite\DTLite.exe" -mount 0, Hunter.cue
Hunter.exe
- Checking the SIERRA.INI in C:\WINDOWS, I noticed that the path had already been altered to CDPath=J:\Hunter
- Running the BAT file, it first gave command of the BAT file in a black window, followed by
'hunter.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
--- and the window disappeared. That was all.
- I went back to Daemon Tools and noticed that it now stated on the bottom [DT - 0] (J:) No Media
Indeed the J: drive was still listed in my explorer, but now it asked to insert a disk when clicking on it.
- Then I tried to re-mount hunted.cue in Daemon Tools (after first removing the previous mount which was still listed in the main window). [DT - 0] (J:) HUNTED appeared again on the bottom and this time I DID install when the game's install screen appeared. Skipping the system test and proceeding with the installation, the following error appeared: The procedure entry point SUnMapLS_IP_EBP_12 could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll. Clicking that away ("OK") another error appeared: Unable to load DSETUP.DLL. Check to see if the product disk/CD is inserted. If it is not, insert it and run setup again from the product disk/CD. (the data was still visible in the J: drive though)
That's all the things I've tried. Something must have been done wrong or the disk image procedure doesn't work with Hunter Hunted. I don't know.

Re: Hunter Hunted music
Did you place the BIN/CUE and the bat file in the game's folder? Delete or REM out the 2nd line with Hunter.exe. Open a command prompt (Start > Run > type cmd > OK) and drop the bat into the command window and press Enter. You should be able to see any errors now.

Re: Hunter Hunted music
I had the BIN/CUE in a different folder. Placed them in c:\sierra\hunter hunted with the originally installed game through your installer.
Now I got to the point where it plays the game and shows the movie sequences from the J drive (which was created by Daemon Tools and to which SIERRA.INI refers to). I did so by running it from Daemon Tools as the screen popped up after mounting the file.
The music, not yet. Still "None" or "Track #% d".
What exactly do you want me to do through the command prompt, step by step?
PS: Oh, and when I click the BAT file (where I removed the second line as you suggested), that's where it appears to disable the J drive from HUNTER to "no disk inserted".

Re: Hunter Hunted music
Do a clean reinstall and drop the image pair and the batch file into the new install's folder. Then repost your sierra.ini and give me the exact paths to the cue and DTLite.exe.

Re: Hunter Hunted music
Sorry about the late reply. I first wanted to complete the walkthrough and screenshots of the game before uninstalling.
I uninstalled. Then reinstalled with your installer (without level editor and extra maps). When your installer was done and I tried "lauch Hunter Hunted now" it said "Hunter Hunted must be installed before it can be played. Do you want to install it now?"
Erm... I just did
Looking at the SIERRA.INI, I noticed that only [Hunter] was there, so I added:
InstallPath=C:\SIERRA\Hunter Hunted
CDPath=H:\
Entire SIERRA.INI attached.
Location of the cue: C:\SIERRA\Hunter Hunted
Location of DTLite.exe: C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite

The batch should be:
This assumes that you originally named your CUE file hunter. Note that if there are any white spaces in the name, enclose it in quotes like this:
If you changed the names after creation, the CUE will be broken unless you correct it. The FILE entry in the CUE needs to specify the BIN name, i.e., if the BIN is named "Hunter" it should be:
The CDPath= should point to the virtual drive letter. Assuming that H: is your SIERRA.INI should have:
If you still have trouble, start a command prompt and drop the batch into it and hit Enter. This way the window will remain open so you can read any error messages.

Re: Hunter Hunted music
Tried it. All works... except the music. Still the same error in the music menu.
Screen cap attached. Don't see anything unusual. The game worked after the hunter.exe command (without music again). If you still have trouble, start a command prompt and drop the batch into it and hit Enter. This way the window will remain open so you can read any error messages.

Re: Hunter Hunted music
It looks like it mounted the disc. How big is the BIN? Did it get the audio tracks? The CUE should list 11 tacks with track one being the data track. I am wondering if you may have re-release that may have excluded the audio tracks. Check if Audiograbber see the tracks in the original disc. Also, with the BIN/Cue mounted, can Audiograbber see the audio tracks in the image?

Re: Hunter Hunted music
This is the content of the CUE file:
FILE "HUNTED.bin" BINARY
REM SESSION 01
TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 AUDIO
INDEX 01 25:51:31

INDEX 01 44:58:17
TRACK 10 AUDIO
INDEX 01 48:09:01
TRACK 11 AUDIO
INDEX 01 50:47:42
Since track 01 looked different from the others (MODE1/2352), I also tried to replace that bit with "AUDIO", like the others, to no avail.
The BIN file is 553,598KB in size, which looks about right.
I was thinking, maybe my CD-ROM doesn't read the Redbook Audio CD tracks afterall or, at least, United States release Redbook Audio CD tracks. My Hunter Hunted CD is the US release (version 1.0). Is there a possible difference between US and EU releases, hardware-wise? Keep in mind that it also doesn't play the audio for several other Dynamix games from around the mid to late-nineties (did Dynamix use Redbook Audio CD tracks often during that time?), such as 3-D Ultra RC Racers (of which I also have the US release).
My computer plays my audio CDs without a problem. Out of curiosity, I tried to play the audio CD of GK Mysteries (also US release) and it didn't want to play (though that might be because of another reason, or not? Is that also Redbook Audio?)
Here is one way to test it. The game help file states that I can replace the game audio with my own CD music. How do I try that out in practice? If that works...

Re: Hunter Hunted music
Track 1 is the data track, so the original CUE was right. These are hybrid CDs. It has a mixture of a data track and audio tracks. Normally you will only see the data track from Windows Explorer, but the audio tracks are still available. The easiest way to see the audio tracks is with something like Audiograbber:
http://www.audiograbber.org/
To use a different CD with Hunter you must either use my installer or do a full install. Note that the original installer may crash on some XP systems and since it is a 16-bit app, will not work at all on most modern Windows machines. If the game will run without the CD, it should just grab the tracks of whatever disc is in the drive.
It seems there is some issue unique to your system that is not allowing you to properly read hybrid CDs. Do you have a more modern PC to try it on?

You mean my 2006 Pentium 4 monster is not modern???!!!Collector wrote:Do you have a more modern PC to try it on?
No, this PC will have to do it. Made progress though! The AudioGrabber did the thing. I managed to extract the music from the CD-ROM and upload it in the Chest. I just can't run the game with the music yet. I tried to place the music files (WAV format) in a separate folder on my harddisk and then change the CDPATH line in SIERRA.INI to that folder.
...but it said no CD audio was available when running the game. Seemed like a good idea. Which file format should it be for the game to recognize it?
Concerning the "unique problem" with my PC, I think I urgently need a registry cleanup with all the installing, uninstalling, program leftovers and whatnot over the years. Do you know a good (and free) program to do this?

Re: Hunter Hunted music
If you can get music with an Audio CD, you could take the extracted tracks and burn a non-hybrid Audio CD from the extracted tracks to see if the game sees the burned disc.

Late reply again... I couldn't get a regular audio CD play during the game, so... The Hunter Hunted game page in the Chest has the game music, but the videos will just have to do without. Thanks for the help, Collector.

About Hunter Hunted Music Is there a way to get it without having the CD or without installing Daemon Tools Lite?
Re: Hunter Hunted music
I have tried to use _inmm to get the game to use ripped tracks, but it fails with this game. It works with most other Dynamix games, but not this.
