I guess you're not a fan of EGA games at all then, because the graphics of the original Gold Rush were top quality for its time.

By "previous versions" I meant the previous screenshots from the remake. Compare, for example, the image Collector posted at the start of this thread with the image of the same screen on the Gold Rush Web site. They've made big improvements between those two versions.

I have no complaints at all about the original Gold Rush's graphics. Given the limitation of 320x200 and 16 colors, what they pulled off is nothing short of amazing.

There is a difference - but really, I would have been happy with either.

Fair enough. I'm not trying to talk you out of liking the game. If you're happy with how it looks and you'd enjoy playing the game looking like that, great.

Sunlight Games with new impressions of Gold Rush!

The independent game developer Sunlight Games has published more new screenshots for his remake of the Sierra classic Gold Rush!. The new images show again some of the popular locations known already from the original game. All shots have still -work in progress status-, as the game is currently in development.
The PC version of Gold Rush! will be released in the fourth quarter of 2014. In addition, a release for other platforms such as Mac and mobile devices is planned.

Following this with considerable interest - I am, after all, very interested in American history. I've never played the original Gold Rush, but I've read several books about the US in the 19th century (particularly the War of 1812, the Civil War and the Railroad Barons - very interesting stuff).

It appears that the central character is wearing dark grey trousers with an off-white shirt and a black jacket. I wonder if this sort of apparel was worn by men during that time period - late 1840s-early 1850s? It looks a little "modern day" to me - the length of the shirt, particularly around the neck, reminds me of a turtleneck sweater - but then I don't specialise in that time period, so please correct me if I'm wrong. Does anyone know? Curious minds and all that...

Anyway, I'm digressing. The graphics (as adeyke's pointed out) are significantly improved (particularly so from the original 16-colour EGA, of course). I look forward to seeing more... I'm fascinated.

It probably is OK that I can say that there will be a physical distribution, too. I can't say much more than that at this time.

Will definitely get it, either way!

Just purchased my copy. Pleasantly happy that I was within the 66 orders, so I get the Gold Rush Classic for free as well.

So I notice that classic Gold Rush is being sold digitally on Steam now. Has anyone bought that version? Does it maintain the classic copy protection or did they release the modified version?

It is version 3, the Software Farm release with no copy protection.
