Because they remove all of the executables for ScummVM. It replaces the original interpreters. It is one of the things that I dislike about the use of SVM for releases.
It looks like GOG updated a bunch of their installers to replace DOSBox with ScummVM. Phantasmagoria 1&2, Gabriel Knight 1&2, Dagger of Amon Ra and a few others that I'm forgetting were all just recently updated.Collector wrote:Because they remove all of the executables for ScummVM. Yes they did. Which is why I keep each version of the release they do. I strongly dislike ScummVM, if DOSBox works. If there's a game that DOSBox can't do, I will settle for ScummVM.notbobsmith wrote:It looks like GOG updated a bunch of their installers to replace DOSBox with ScummVM. Just out of curiosity, why? Since I've mainly relied on DOSBox for everything, I've mostly ignored it until recently. I also am trying to get as close to a one-size-fits-all solution for DOS games. But right now it is what GOG bundles with Riven and Lighthouse so I've been "forced" to use it. During my playthrough of Phantasmagoria, It was the only thing that resolved the sound issue I was having in DOSBox. Its functionality is limited to approved titles, but otherwise I don't really have a problem with it.Tawmis wrote:Yes they did. Which is why I keep each version of the release they do. Well, for me, I have become very familiar with DOSBox, because that is what I was introduced to years ago. So mounting the CDROMS when needed and such, and capturing video - all of that is committed to memory. And thus far, of all the games I have played (from Wizardry, Realms of Arkania, Might and Magic, and a ton of Sierra games, DOSBox has never given me an issue). Where as ScummVM, because my lack of usage, has proved problematic for me (probably from lack of knowledge). But why use something if something else works, which has been my case. I also don't like how some of the ScummVM packaged games, use ScummVM somehow to execute the game, and hides the actual game executable.notbobsmith wrote: Just out of curiosity, why?
