That won't make any difference. The main things to look for are the drivers and the resource path statement.

No error message - the screen just hangs black as usual.

What is the target of the shortcut? It should be

"C:\Program Files\DOSBox\DOSBox.exe" -conf "C:\Games\King's Quest V\dosbox.conf" -noconsole

If the quotes are missing from the path to the conf file, that is the problem.

C:\Program Files\DOSBox\DOSBox.exe -conf "C:\Games\King's Quest V\dosbox.conf" -noconsole

The first set of quotes is missing, but when I add them in and press apply, it doesn't help. Also, the added quotes disappear when I check the shortcut again.

Do a clean reinstall of the game.

I just did a reinstall, no success.

I've actually reinstalled the game a few times now. I don't think your installer is the problem, as I've even tried installing the game manually via a CD mount. That didn't work either. I'm just hoping that I have better results with Windows 7.

Side note: The disk version runs perfectly on my machine, so at least I have a working version of one of my favorite games :)

Does the installer support the Roberta Williams' Anthology?

Up until now I've been using my stand-alone copy of KQV to install the game. I wanted to try using the RWA (CD #3), but the installer couldn't detect the disc (it kept asking me to insert the KQV CD so I just had to cancel out).

There is an installer for the Anthology.

Wow I just got it working!

I didn't realize there was an installer for the Anthology, so I burned a CD containing the KQV files from disc 3. The installer worked well and the game finally gets passed the loading screen.

I guess you were right about my stand-alone disc being corrupt. That CD is at my parents' house and I'm at my apartment right now, so I can't investigate further at the moment (I keep my RWA with me and my individual games at my parents' place). I am curious as to what's wrong with that disc though, so I'm going to take a look at the files when I head back home.

I'm sorry for wasting your time, Collector. I really appreciate all your support and what you've been doing for the Sierra community.

One lingering question: Is there any way to get DOSBox to stretch out the image to fill my entire screen? My laptop has a widescreen display, so the game plays in a square with the two sides blank.

Thanks!

Check the manual controls on your monitor.
