Nay, tis not Space Quest 2.

I would give a clue - but the fact that the two of you have differing opinions tells me I may have found one that may be a little more difficult than normal!

And that's why we need a clue.

Ah, you're right. It is SCI. The diagonal lines threw me off a bit. Must have been tired.

Okay, is there a primer somewhere on how to tell whether a game is AGI or SCI just from the way the pixels are drawn?

Yes. AGI pixels are double-wide because the graphics are 160x200 stretched to 320x200. SCI pixels are perfect squares at native 320x200 resolution.

I'll go out on a blink and say LSL2.

Nay to both!

I will say if you have played this particular game - you have definitely seen this screen - at least once.
(Sort of a clue...)

So within the AGI resource file they're actually stored as 160x200 screens, but in gameplay they're displayed as 320x200. Is that a correct understanding?

That "clue" just about describes every game. :P

Trust me, when it's revealed, you will be like, "Oh."
Because plenty of screens you have probably seen more than once. Whether you criss-cross a room and see it again. But this one - once per game - is the most you will ever see it.

So the clues thus far -

The main character is not named James.
You have seen this screen at least once per game (that you played it; and after the first time, probably never saw it again).
The game is a trilogy; and yet, it's not.

Is it a splash screen then?
