I also have the Sierra Originals CD version. I don't have any 64924 files (I have 64929 files). I do however have those quotes below the Day splash screens.

Interesting. I wonder how one would affect the other. Do you know what those files govern in particular? Under what conditions do those files cause the clock crash? Only when running from HDD or does it also happen from the CD?
We're past the clock puzzle for now so I guess I can replace those files safely.

I took a look at the files in a hex editor, but did not see anything obvious. I wish NRS had made the tools he made to create his patches public.

Curious. I have the first release and the Sierra Originals and both do not display without the files and both crash when clicking on the clock. And you don't have the subtitles turned on? Do you see them in the Patches directory on the CD?

@ jujigatame. You need both files or none. They have to be used as a pair. The SCR is a script patch and the HEP is a heap (for memory management) file. I tested it with the original installer and the SHP installer using the CD for resources. It makes no difference.

Then that is why. With those files the quotes are present regardless of whether the subtitles are on or off. If you have them turned off without those two patch files the quotes will be missing.

So basically what I'm experiencing is a bug in the original game that was patched in the subsequent CD releases? That's interesting.
This also means that anyone who attempts playing the patched game through DOSBox as-is will always encounter the clock crash?
