Perhaps you mistook the safe mode startup page for an unable to display page message. After launching IE in safe mode, did you try going to any other page?

Very odd. All safe mode does is start IE without any plugins enabled. You would not be able to see any flash or PDFs in the browser, but it would not prevent you from loading a page. I forget, do you have x64 Vista or x86? If x64, you have 2 different IEs. A 32 bit version and a 64. Do both fail? Perhaps you should try doing a scan with the System File Checker for corrupted/altered system files.

I have Vista64. I tried both 32 and 64 bit IE8, same error. I installed IE9, same error. Where might I find the system file checker? Tried dozens of other websites, sierrachest is the only one with this problem.

Broke down and installed Firefox. I can access sierrachest using firefox.

Run > sfc /scannow

It may take a while, so you may want to set it to run over night or while you are out.
